In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update .
What's New
The New deviantART Mobile Site
One of the most common requests from the community has been to update deviantART's mobile site. By popular demand, we've released a brand new version of the mobile site! The site is officially supported in the default browsers for the iPhone and Android phones and tablets.
Instead of developing two separate versions of the site—a desktop version and a mobile version—we've formatted the desktop site to fit into a mobile browser. This allows the mobile site to offer many more features than the previous version did, and it also makes for a more smooth user experience. The end result is a seamless mobile site, and it looks a little like this:
- You can Browse art, check your Message Center, reply to Notes, browse your friends' Profiles and Galleries, visit the Forums, view today's Daily Deviations and do almost everything else you can on the desktop version of the site!
- The drop down menu usually located in the top left corner of the site can be accessed by tapping on the deviantART logo, allowing you to easily access familiar tools without complication.
- You can find wallpapers for your phone using the "Wallpaper" app available in the main menu!
- The Message Center is located in one place, which makes responding to comments and browsing art and Journals a quick, easy experience. Deviants who enjoy viewing their Message Center one section at a time can tap on the arrow next to "Messages" at the top of the Message Center. This will prompt the Message Center's left sidebar to appear and allow selection one section of the Message Center to view at a time.
- Journal Skin designers, if you'd like control how your skin looks in a mobile browser, learn how to use our new mobile media queries .
Prints Integration on Deviation Pages
We've implemented an easier way to purchase art on deviantART! When viewing a deviation that is enabled as a Print, you'll be met with a sleek new menu that is designed to be simple and straightforward.
We've moved the Prints functionality from its own separate page and placed it within the deviation page, to help artists sell more of their work, and to reduce friction for buyers looking to purchase art they love.
Because the functionality of the old Prints pages has been added to the deviation page, you can now preview how your Prints purchase will look without having to leave the deviation page! Once you select a product type, the preview will update to reflect your selection.
The New Submit Art Page (Beta Testers Only)
Beta Testers, we're bringing you a complete revamp of the Submit Art page! While the page you're familiar with has been a long-standing part of deviantART, the new page is designed to be more intuitive, user-friendly, and up to date with deviantART as it is today.
More Improvements to More Like This (Beta Testers Only)
Back in August we launched More Like This to Beta, and after taking in your feedback, we made some improvements , which we're pleased to say were met with positive response! Today, we're bringing you even more improvements, both to More Like This results and your browsing experience!

- The Daily Deviation page did not display some taller-than-normal portraits correctly when the page first loaded. Fixed by shahyarg
- The oEmbed API did not contain data for the "moderate" setting for Mature Content. Fixed by randomduck
- The tool buttons have been upgraded to a new look. Designed by zilla774 , implemented by mudimba
- A bug related to missing thumbs and previews on drawings was identified. Fixed by sgrahamUK
- When changing the main file of an item originally uploaded through an app, the app attribution will now be cleared. Fixed by kouiskas
- Non-Latin characters are now cleanly stripped from uploaded items' titles, as deviation titles still only support latin characters. Fixed by kouiskas
- When going inside a stack, into an item, and then back to the stack, uploading a file inside the stack would put the file in Sta.sh instead of the stack. Fixed by kouiskas
- Thumbnails of literature submitted through Sta.sh Writer appearing in stacks in the Message Center would have misaligned stack corners. Fixed by kemayo
- Menus in Sta.sh Writer have been changed to be a little more responsive; you can now mouse from one to another without having to click. Fixed by kemayo
- Classes are now allowed on span tags, for skinning purposes. Fixed by Alisey
- Efficiency of fetching your Friends List in Sta.sh Writer's sidebar has been improved; less unnecessary data is pulled, and the menu builds faster. Fixed by kemayo and inazar

Thanks very much for the feedback left on last week's update ! Here's some of the feedback you left for us.
- The most common response regarding the friends system was that deviants would like an easy way to separate lists of who they watch from lists of deviants who are their friends. Dramira-Official mentioned that this could also be applied to the Message Center, where new messages from friends could be listed before the general watch section.
- lohkk and Yamitora1 suggested that an easy means of managing and organizing one's friendslist would be helpful, and ShapeShifter314 mentioned that being able to search through one's friends list would be useful as well.
- Some deviants would like stacks within folders in their Message Center. Suggested by Krisoyo
- A search function in Group galleries would be helpful. Suggested by IcyPheonix
- Deviants would like notes sent to Groups to be included in their Sent Notes folder. Suggested by alexpeanut and Magical525
- It would be helpful to be able to add keywords to Groups, so that they can be found more easily when searching in the Groups Portal . Suggested by MartinSilvertant
- Some members would like to apply custom CSS to their Gallery's Featured folder. Suggested by Veroom

Is there any move to make portfolios more mobile friendly? I've found that nowadays more people are checking such things on their phones (which doesn't make a good first impression). otherwise i tend to give people a tumblr url and that breaks my heart a little

Not liking the mobile site, unfortunately. It's a lot slower and feels more finicky to use—for example, to hit the 'x' button in message centre requires being more precise, in case you hit the dropdown arrow, or open the deviation by mistake.
It was a good idea, and the extra functionality might have been useful, but overall it just isn't smooth enough.

I love that there's a new mobile site. The old one was limited and too buggy, in my opinion. The new one may be slower, but if I can access the same things as on a desktop browser and have a less buggy experience, then it's a trade off I'm willing to make.

A lovely surprise to log onto DA from my android phone and find it just like browsing on a computer. So much better, I can see and reply to comment threads and the whole thing makes so much more sense. The old version used to really wind me up! Cheers for fixing this DA.

So I just simply suggest :
Blue/White is overused, I see no reason to make it these colours. DevGreen is much better, and certainly more DeviantART-like than blue and white which only remind people of other sites, making it less unique. Based on sta.sh ? Still that goes for sta.sh, too. I have no idea why all of a sudden it became blue and white. 'til then you guys managed to put some blue here and there without it being too much, but now it's becoming like Facebook and whatnot, and that's not really cool.

Some members would like to apply custom CSS to their Gallery's Featured folder.
Uuuuuh sure...But the layout issue still hasn't been fixed ; the CSS looks weird with the new thumbnails, it's all messed up, because the codes do not match any longer. Are you guys working on that ?
I don't mind the new thumbnails, like I said, this is the only problem I see about them.
And once again, why can't regular groups display donation polls ? That would be really helpful to become a super group. I don't see why regular members can have a donation poll, but not groups ?

I'll say that the new mobile site is a mess. It's a fairly big step back. I have both an iPod touch and an Android phone and it looks awful in both of them. With multiple browsers. The message center is less useful and in there and in search sections of icons and areas overlap our are impossible to read. It's harder to search and if you want to download it takes 3 or 4 steps instead of 1. If you do it the old way it zooms in as it would on a normal screen but on a tiny screen so the zoom makes it almost impossible to get back to normal view.
Even notes and other things are harder to reach and reply and its harder to see and reply to comments.
I'm not sure this version was tested wide enough or asked normal users what they were looking for in a mobile site. Please put this back into beta and bring back the previous mobile site while you actually test and fix the problems.

I mean so far I have tested it on 3 different mobile browsers and things don't display correctly on any of them. And some steps take longer to perform then others. This is a huge step back and it's awful for non smartphone users. Makes it completely impossible to use.

The old way should still exist. They just said they used a script to compress the desktop site to make it a mobile version. Which really explains why it's so terrible. You can't just compress a huge site like this and expect it to work well on mobile.

i stopped beta testing because i felt uncomfortable by the new uploads page.
it looks nice, i like the new feel, but i think theres a few bugs around, and it feels a bit disorganised? o: it'll be something i'll be happy to get use to though.

I'm on a Windows Phone and the mobile site update did reaaaaally uncomfortable stuff on my browser.
All text and all notification frames in the message center are squashed to the left to only occupy half of the screen. Making it pretty unreadable.
Could you do something about that, please ? =A=

This i believe this version just needs more updates and feedback because it is new isn't it? I tried submissions just now and only got one picture in before it spazzed out on me. It has a difficult of trying to size the site to the iphone and thus i can not access some of the normal features for submitting art. For instance i could not pick the category for the picture because it didn't fit in the frame and wouldnt let me scroll over. I was wondering if it would be better to just have an app and not combined the normal site with a mobile site. Kinda like how facebook you have to have an app to upload pictures onto your profile. but this is just feed back.

New Mobile Site:
Some of it's great, some of it isn't.
Bad: Can't find a way to create a new note without clicking an old note and editing who it's sent to.
Can't add new deviations from the ipod. Then again I can't add pictures from the ipod even if I'm in desktop mode so you'd have to tweak the coding to recognise where to get the pictures from on mobile devices for it to work.
The site is slow on the ipod, but I don't know how much of that is the age of my ipod and how much is the website as I usually use the computer.
Good: I like the pop down menu when you click the deviantart logo up the top, I think that's the best feature you've got for the mobile site.
I also like that I can copy and paste the links of deviations on my ipod touch.
I don't have to zoom in and out to view things

I have an iPod touch... It works for me. However, it works kind of slowly, yes... It may be because I have a different version of iPod, though, who knows? The problems I found are that some of the buttons are very crammed together, and also, I cannot read some of the journals because of the skins being used... hmm...

The larger thumbnails make it very difficult to browse effectively. What solution will you be implementing to fix the fact that you've made your site more difficult to browse quickly and pleasantly? Without smaller thumbnails, how will you allow people to view more art on the screen at once (the amount they used to be able to view, with smaller thumbnails). How can we avoid the situation we've been put in, where we have to scroll all the time?

Actually it is DA's fault. I have used it on multiple devices on a broadband connection with multiple browsers. And it has problems on every single one. The problem is that it's just a reformat of the normal site and most things don't compress.

For me, the new site takes AGES to load, also lags and sometimes causes my C7 to randomly crash due to the load. Isn't good if the person is on a limited bandwidth as well since it takes nearly 1.4MB to load JUST the front page alone compared to the 400kbish of the old. Also, I can't log into the new site because the thing keeps demanding I upgrade my phone browser when I obviously cannot upgrade it anymore. This means DArt is no longer accessible on my phone and is useless there. I would request for the old mobile site to be re-enabled so I can browse or check my messages/notes, even if the reply section for it is buggy as hell and NEVER actually posts a reply. And no, if you are stating to get a new phone, not everyone has the money to do so on a whim.

The mobile site is still there, it's not an app. If you're looking to get to the mobile version of the site from your phone, you can go to m.deviantart.com, or you should be able to scroll to the bottom of the home page and select "Switch to Mobile Site".

This is as 'descolefan1'. Due to my blackberry having this weird age limit thing now, i wouldn't of been able to see pictures but the notes I could send. But now with the new update site, it doesn't show my notes! It's like it's covered by a grey block! Right now I have to use my sisters I-pod touch and she doesn't know I'm using it right at this minute!!
