In our continuous effort to improve the deviantART experience, we're publishing weekly Site Updates to keep members informed and to gather feedback. Below is a list of recent changes to the site, bug fixes, and feedback that was brought up by members in the last Site Update .


What's New


The New deviantART Mobile Site

One of the most common requests from the community has been to update deviantART's mobile site. By popular demand, we've released a brand new version of the mobile site! The site is officially supported in the default browsers for the iPhone and Android phones and tablets.


Instead of developing two separate versions of the site—a desktop version and a mobile version—we've formatted the desktop site to fit into a mobile browser. This allows the mobile site to offer many more features than the previous version did, and it also makes for a more smooth user experience. The end result is a seamless mobile site, and it looks a little like this:



  • You can Browse art, check your Message Center, reply to Notes, browse your friends' Profiles and Galleries, visit the Forums, view today's Daily Deviations and do almost everything else you can on the desktop version of the site!
  • The drop down menu usually located in the top left corner of the site can be accessed by tapping on the deviantART logo, allowing you to easily access familiar tools without complication. 


  • You can find wallpapers for your phone using the "Wallpaper" app available in the main menu!
  • The Message Center is located in one place, which makes responding to comments and browsing art and Journals a quick, easy experience. Deviants who enjoy viewing their Message Center one section at a time can tap on the arrow next to "Messages" at the top of the Message Center. This will prompt the Message Center's left sidebar to appear and allow selection one section of the Message Center to view at a time.
  • Journal Skin designers, if you'd like control how your skin looks in a mobile browser, learn how to use our new mobile media queries .

Prints Integration on Deviation Pages

We've implemented an easier way to purchase art on deviantART! When viewing a deviation that is enabled as a Print, you'll be met with a sleek new menu that is designed to be simple and straightforward.



We've moved the Prints functionality from its own separate page and placed it within the deviation page, to help artists sell more of their work, and to reduce friction for buyers looking to purchase art they love.



Because the functionality of the old Prints pages has been added to the deviation page, you can now preview how your Prints purchase will look without having to leave the deviation page! Once you select a product type, the preview will update to reflect your selection.


The New Submit Art Page (Beta Testers Only)

Beta Testers, we're bringing you a complete revamp of the Submit Art page! While the page you're familiar with has been a long-standing part of deviantART, the new page is designed to be more intuitive, user-friendly, and up to date with deviantART as it is today.

  • When changing the main file of an item originally uploaded through an app, the app attribution will now be cleared. Fixed by kouiskas

  • When going inside a stack, into an item, and then back to the stack, uploading a file inside the stack would put the file in Sta.sh instead of the stack. Fixed by kouiskas
Sta.sh Writer

  • Thumbnails of literature submitted through Sta.sh Writer appearing in stacks in the Message Center would have misaligned stack corners. Fixed by kemayo
  • Menus in Sta.sh Writer have been changed to be a little more responsive; you can now mouse from one to another without having to click. Fixed by kemayo
  • Classes are now allowed on span tags, for skinning purposes. Fixed by Alisey
  • Efficiency of fetching your Friends List in Sta.sh Writer's sidebar has been improved; less unnecessary data is pulled, and the menu builds faster. Fixed by kemayo and inazar

Thanks very much for the feedback left on last week's update ! Here's some of the feedback you left for us.

  • The most common response regarding the friends system was that deviants would like an easy way to separate lists of who they watch from lists of deviants who are their friends. Dramira-Official mentioned that this could also be applied to the Message Center, where new messages from friends could be listed before the general watch section.
  • lohkk and Yamitora1 suggested that an easy means of managing and organizing one's friendslist would be helpful, and ShapeShifter314 mentioned that being able to search through one's friends list would be useful as well.
  • Some deviants would like stacks within folders in their Message Center. Suggested by Krisoyo
  • A search function in Group galleries would be helpful. Suggested by IcyPheonix
  • Deviants would like notes sent to Groups to be included in their Sent Notes folder. Suggested by alexpeanut and Magical525
  • It would be helpful to be able to add keywords to Groups, so that they can be found more easily when searching in the Groups Portal . Suggested by MartinSilvertant
  • Some members would like to apply custom CSS to their Gallery's Featured folder. Suggested by Veroom

It's just not big enough to handle the normal mobile site let alone this one, my Wii would handle the old one perfectly fine, but this one is slowing it down even more than the normal, desktop site used to when I switched off mobile.

Thanks for changing the mobile site. I was always disappointed how I couldn't completely view people's profiles before.

Also the new submission page looks really nice. Something I like a lot about Anipan is the ability to drag and drop to upload, so it's neat that you guys are incorporating it too!

When you reply to a comment or message there's a little checkmarked box that says "Remove this message after I reply." Is there any way that you can make it permanently unchecked?

Hey there! If you go to the main page on your phone, there should be a "Switch to Mobile Site" link at the bottom. Alternatively, you can go to m.deviantart.com, that should trigger the mobile site. Hope that helps.

Hey, you know what would be great? Instead of developing buggy mobile sites, designed for people with smart phones, can you add in a 'This Deviant watches you' sign beside the 'watch' button on everyone's page? That way, we could have an easier way of checking to see if a specific person is watching us!

Just a suggesting, but I'm sure it would be welcomed warmly into the community!

I absolutley hate the new mobile site the site is slow on my already really slow phone and its squished really bad the new mobile site was made for the i phone 5 not the samsung seek with it's 2 inch screen. I only use the mobile site to check my messages but now the mobile site is cramped and I can not see any messages the menu is messed up to me the new mobile site is not user freandly what so ever i have had to borrow friends smart pohones to use the website if I wanted it to look like the desktop view I would use the desktop view not the mobile please bring back the mobile or give people the option of m.da.com which could be the old site and the new one be m2.da.com and the normal desktop view I am seriously dissatisfied because now i can not check my messages at all what so ever please change it back

There was nothing wrong with the previous mobile site. It was fast, convenient, and actually worked properly. The new site looks like a cropped version of the full website only more cluttered and less appealing. The buttons don't work, can't delete or reply to anything, I could go on.

What's done is done, but can you guys at least check EVERYTHING's compatible first before you make it go live? And yes, I prefer the original mobile site over this buggy mess.

Hmm... The Mobile site update was quite nice, yes... Except... It seems as if the new mobile site doesn't want to fit into the screen. As in, some buttons on the main screen are overlapping. Also, I can't read certain journals because of the journal skin that is being used. I think that the mobile website could use a bit of fine tuning.

Also, I know that I am not a Beta-Tester, but... I really like the old Submit screen. The one I can see presented in the Site-Update thing looks kind of... Well, it just seems like the old one matches the deviantART website better, and also it looks like the old one has more options. This is just in inference though; if it ever gets released to the general public, who knows?

Agreed. Adding someone to your "Friends" list should require confirmation from the other individual the same way you accept or deny an offered membership to a group.

I think it would be helpful to add a "skip deviation" button in addition to the "remove deviation" button when checking messages. Since I share an account with my siblings there is always something for one of them they want to see and vice versa, so I always end up having to go back to the message center and sometimes scroll through pages of deviations to get back to where I was.

I can't log out of the new mobile site. its really really slow. If wanted the Desktop browser on my mobile I would just click "Switch to desktop site" . . . . . .The other one was MUCH faster and I could log out. .-.

I think its because my Moblie Browser's is not "pull down" friendly. As most are. Thats why the old one was better for me. I didn't need to pull down anything (as on the desktop site) to log out Now I can't log out of my account. and I have to restart the browser and such.

Hey there! You shouldn't need to pull anything down. If you tap on the deviantART logo in the top left, it will prompt the main menu to appear on your screen, and you can select Log Out from there.

Wow. You managed to make the mobile version even more slow and buggy. Everything takes ages to load, microscopic items in the message center are very hard to browse precisely and often bugs so that you click when you want to scroll. Message center is even harder to manage from a mobile than it was before, and I disliked it a lot!

Really, saying you just push the desktop version to the mobile users just means you don't feel like spending time and ressources for your mobile users on top of costing them tons of data usage. It's very sad and dissapointing.

I'm not that keen on the new mobile website. While I like some elements of it, there are others that really don't look that good on a mobile screen. Especially the message screen. Notices with images in them place all the text to the right of the screen, and there's just a massive blank space on the left half of the screen! And my profile looks a little messed up on my phone as well...
