Monsoon floods swept away her village and family, it was her desperate will to survive that called the Traveler's Forest to her. When she first arrived, she initially believed it was the afterlife.

Ever since coming to terms with the loss of her family and home, and the realization that most of the city's inhabitants have suffered hard lives and losses of their own, Adjoa has dedicated herself to helping others in any way she can. She has learned a broad range of fairly basic skills and worked in a wide variety of positions over the course of her centuries in Sybal Heim.

Thinking of serving the community as a whole, she once pursued a career in law enforcement some centuries ago - and even trained to join the Airavata, at the time believing strongly in using her vigor and her Sybal's shields for the good of the meek. But ultimately she found that the organization did not fully align with her nature, and she chose to leave for more humble pursuits. Now, her various jobs take her from home to home, helping others on more personal terms, making life a little easier one citizen at a time.

She tends to gravitate toward disabled or younger individuals, where her nurturing side comes out in full swing.

She met Nagi by chance around 75 years ago. He was being harassed in the street by a pack of bullies and she jumped immediately to his defense. The two became fast friends thereafter, and for a few years she was a common visitor, taking it upon herself to check up on him often. Her mothering and meddling nature led her to quit the job she held at the time, and through stubborn yet gentle insistence, she worked her way into a position where she could look after the shy young man.

Nagi becomes easily flustered by her mothering, but it is always good-natured. He appreciates her wisdom and kindness both for what it is, and for the memories of his own mother long lost.

Each color of her sybal has a meaning which relates to who Adjoa is, her cultural background and her core beliefs, based on the colors of the Kente traditional cloth of the Akan people of Ghana.
