Description "Okay ladies and gentlemen, gather around. Pay attention to the holomonitor.
Officially, this gruesome monstrosity is known as Species 1558. But most of us in the field just call them 'manmockers.'
Point of origin: Unknown, but somewhere from the Orion Expanse.
They average about two to two point five meters in height, appear to biomechanical in nature: a blend of organic and mechanical. Note that that is DIFFERENT from cybernetic. This is a blend where our science can't tell where the organic ends and the machine begins.
They are sentient, but not highly intelligent. You're talking an average I.Q. of the mid-70s to low 90s at best, thank God.
They are strong enough to easily rip an armored trooper in half, carry what appear to be ancient giant sonic vibration blades and pulsed microwave laser rifles that are more powerful than you'd think. And you pretty much have to blast them to pieces to kill them, or they will crawl away to regenerate.
Now, here's the gruesome part. Their entire purpose appears to be to collect human skin. They flay human captives, generally while they're still alive, and secure their skin to their own hides. Eventually the skin rots, gets torn off in battle or whatever, and they have to go get more.
Why? Nobody knows. Could be trophy hunting, but it appears to obsessive for that. Religious in nature? Possibly. Some biological need? Could be that the organic part gets something out of it that we haven't figured out yet. The boys at Alexandria have scratched their heads over that one for a decade.
What's really mystifying is that humans are the ONLY skins they collect. No other alien species...and they've been allegedly sighted by older races for the last 10,000 years at least in this sector....skins and all.
There's a 1,000,000 credit bonus being offered up by intel for the first person that figures out the burning question.....where the frag were they getting HUMAN skin in deep space 8,000 years before the birth of Christ?"

Excerpt from the Journal of Zan Holindai, Nix Lord Magus:
"...Our encounter with the Manmokers, as I came to indentify them, was troubling. Even though they could not see me with their eyes, at least not through normal vision, they knew I was on the tarmac, outside of our ship, The Endeavor. Fortunately for me, even though they knew I was there, they could not see the traps I had laid for them should they have made it that far...

In regards to their ability to know I was where I was hiding, I believe they would have enhanced senses. Maybe a sort of thermal vision, or enhanced hearing or smell... I am not sure, as I could only afford so much time to speculate whilst The Endeavors lasers blasted them to bits where they stood... It would not be until later that I would determine... their appearance may not have been coincidental..."

(Raises hand) "Sir?"
"What is it, Hicks?"
"Hudson, sir. He's Hicks."
"What is it, private?"
"How do I get out of this chickenshit outfit?"

Keep the million. I'll transfer to planetside garrison first.

(Great job. Keep it up.)

KS needs to be paying you to put this crazy crap into a series of Dimension Books.

I wouldn't. The Freelancers universe is my own baby that I want to keep control of until I can do something big.

Not a chance. The system will be mine from the ground up. It'll be a variant of the same system I'm going to use for the steampunk RPG I'm working on.
