Old keys are works of art. This is my collection. I don't know where most of them are from - I get them at flea markets mostly. A few are music box keys, and there's one from the Pennsylvania Railroad.Related content

I would love to collect skeleton keys. My family blames Indian in the Cupboard for my fascination with them as a kid. I don't know why, I just find them more interesting and unique compared to modern tumbler ones. They're symbols and pieces of art.

I LOVE keys! I have always been fascinated by them, how they hold so much power, as if you dont have the key to something it can be so devastating, yet it is just a small intricate piece of metal. I did a project about them on my illustration degree, I collected and drew aboout 100 of them, and then shrunk the drawings down and put them all on a huge poster, I should really put it up on here sometime. It was about keys that had lost all their power and were meaningless, as their locks had all been lost or desroyed one way or another, I really enjoyed that project.

They're gorgous! My personal favorite is the one on the far left just under the rather large one. Funny enough, whenever I draw a key, thats almost exactly what it looks like. XD

yeah, i have recently started my collection, but right now all i have is an antique keyhole. but i have to buy any keys i want over the internet, there are sadly no flea markets or yard sales in my area. do by chance remember where you got the center one, or what kind of key it is?

I got it at the Hartville flea market in Ohio. The seller had a table full of old tools and junk. What they didn't have was any information about the key. I have no idea where it came from. Hartville is a small town in the middle of an Amish area in Ohio near Kent, but it is a BIG flea market and the dealers come from all over.

My Grandfather collects keys he finds at old west ghost towns, (He also finds guns occasionally, and restores them). He has a few locks, too from the mid to late 1800 and a bunch from the early 1900s. (I would LOVE to get some of those, too.)
I'm fascinated by the puzzle qualities the key shares with the locks.
