Description
Full view PLEASE!!!It... is... finished!!! OMFG!
After completing [link] I had to busy myself with another impossibly long Photoshop challenge.
In true =Illogical-Lynx style, I also had to try at least a hundred new things that I'd never done before and had no idea how to apply, and lucky for me, most of them worked!
I was going to add a bit more debris and stuff around the edges and maybe even some glowing sparks and stuff but I think it looks all right as it is now.
Aaanyways, Antak Koadamee, my Elite character laying down cover-fire with his custom automatic carbine. The blade attached to the bottom is not an energy blade but rather a vibro-axe which utilises ultra high frequency vibrations through hardened metal alloy to slice through most compounds with ease. You can also see part of the duelling knives that Antak wears on his forearm armour.
So here we have it, the last *counts* 4 months of my progress on Photoshop including my first ever detailed digital background. This took 3 months less than last time... maybe the next one will be done in 1 month?
Well I can hope can't I?
I still have the .psd file stored away with all the layers, so I can make adjustments if anyone sees anything they think could be added to this.

I like it, especially the idea of the "bayonet/axe" thingy on the Carbine. Even though custom weapons generally make me shout "Mary Sue!" this is a neat enough idea that it doesn't get that.
Oh, and I vote for adding sparks to it.

Thank you very much!
I came up with the idea when I was trying to decide on a weapon and I realised that aside from the energy sword (only available to high ranks) there weren't really any Covenant weapons that were really inspiring. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to give him a human weapon as his primary, so I took the next best option.
I like the idea of sparks too, I'll definitely give that a shot next time!
Thanks again for the comment though, it means an awful lot more to me than you might think, since I'm pretty new to making more in-depth characters and even newer at writing about them. I only learned about "Mary Sue's" about a year ago and I worry that in my new-ness I might be doing it without realising.
I took utmost care with creating Antak here (hence why he's only a Minor) and I think I've balanced out all his strengths with appropriate weaknesses. Good to get an affirmative response, at least on one area!

PS. lol, that's right, no-one does expect the Spanish Inquisition! Among their weapons are such diverse elements as fear and surprise! xD

Hmm, yeah I did try a lot of new stuff on this, maybe I'll tone down the "busy-ness" next time.

It's not a muffler, it's an extended drum-style magazine clip! [link]
Antak specially modified his carbine to fire automatically at a sacrifice of long range accuracy. For an automatic weapon, the standard magazine of 18 rounds was too small to allow more than a few seconds' firing, so he built a new larger magazine to hold more ammo.

oh MAN this is simply AMAZING... you've putten an incredible amount of detail into the colouring here.. everything from the suble bullet holes in the wall to the green light flashing out from his rifle. the shading makes me just envious
hehe, my first thought was that the "orange bubbles" where explotions but I suspect it's rahter the inside of a floodship.
oh Don't get me wrong, it's often a good thing that people can see different things in the same picutre^^

Thank you very much!
This was a big step forward for me, and I fear I now have a rather tough standard to keep! I tried your technique of using the multiply brush and I totally agree, it's a lot better than the burn/dodge tool. I find with my digital stuff, it takes me so long that I might as well aim ridiculously high and hope I can pull it off!
Hehe, you were right with your first guess, I'd completed the background a while before H3 came out, and it was supposed to be flames. Or not so much "flames" but sort of smoke and burning gas almost. It's hard to describe. As if the fire itself was off the screen but the wind was blowing across.
Thanks very much for the on this. I'm glad you liked it. Interestingly enough, a lot of people who I thought would really like this have stayed silent. If I were to rank my watchers in order of most likely to respond to this, 3 of the top 5 haven't even said anything.

"3 of the top 5 haven't even said anything" yea I know that feeling, just when I finish a big picture I'm really pleased with it end up getting.. decent to less than decent attention.. it's really discuraging..
but hey if you just post this on a Halo club I'm sure you'll be flooded with comments!

good you should allso submit the bloody Azura picture in a club! hmm perhaps by joining hte and posting it there.. they've got ALOT of watchers, but just remeber to remove the tag of "Deviations" in your friends list on the club so you don't have to be flooded with deviations if you don't wish too

Illogical-Lynx In reply to SteinWill [2007-12-08 10:44:39 +0000 UTC]
That might be an idea... that club does have some pretty high-calibre artists in it.
I'll look into it.
Ugh, I know what you mean about being flooded with club deviartions, I was in a photo club and wow, like 6 a day!
A club has to be of medium sorta size so it still has a large audience but they don't flood you...

I decided to try the counter-shading-y stuff as a bit of an afterthought and it came out as the best part I think. I was real pleased with the smoke too, I managed to figure it out all by my self.

Thanks very much for the 's as well, very much appreciated!

OMG! wow Thats awsome!!
The colour is so well done and the texture and the background EVERYTHING! I love the way that you did the lazer beam and the gun its soo awsome! And I admire your patience
If I start something that I know is going to take a while I nprmally give up ._. then I wonder why I never got off my lazy ass and finished it >.<
Im trying to finish 2 pics in Photoshop at the moment but I havent got further than the outlines... I guess I like the outlines/sketches and dont want to mess it up (Even though in Photoshop I use layers and so I cant mess it up >.< lol)
Anyway, Great job!

Thank you very much!
The background was a bit of a first: "ZOMG a background by me that actually half works!!!11"
I often end up doing it in phases, firstly, I'm real keen and inspired, then after that theres a period of doing nothing, then a couple of "Dammit, I gotta finish this useless thing before I start another one!!" phases and then finally the "OMG, It's actually looking good, I'm going to finish this!!!" rush right at the end! xD

Laser? Ok I understand that but what's with "Tumor"?
The carbine fires radioactive metal slugs as opposed to an actual laser beam. It's more or less straight from the game only this one has an extended magazine.

Nice job on the anatomy, and his gun isn't as long as in that other sketch. The vibro-blade looks just plain awesome too. *Gives thumbs up*

Hehe, thank you very much! I'm quite surprised how well my "Mash everything I want to try into one gigantic picture of uber doom and hope it works out" technique has been going for me!
The level's Cortana right? Iiiiurgh, I hate that level, it's so irritating all those bloody long range flood!
Glad you like the weapon I gave him. The vibro axe is an invention I was quite proud of since when I played Gears of War, I thought "How can I give something like this wicked chainsaw gun to Antak without anyone noticing?". The bayonet in this is a kinda compromise only it doesn't appear to move at all and it only hums quietly.
Thanks again!
