Description A little gift for Nomads-of-Korsun .

Vaergas, standing somewhere during a battle and probably calling for a support. This situation is absolutely random (as well as a rifle which he's holding ), but I wanted to draw some urban scene, so I made this

Sepia and textures rule in my arts as usual!

I really love how the background is nice and simple so that it doesn't distract from the character. Great job!

Thank you so much, this looks awesome.

This actually fits with part of Vaergas's back story (coincidentally enough), there was a scenario he found himself in where his unit was cut off and surrounded by rebel forces in the Soldien Union. Outgoing communications were jammed (so they couldn't really call for backup) but Vaergas knew that if they very quickly counterattacked their encircling foe they could break through before they were trapped. His superiors repeatedly denied his requests, thinking their best course of action was to stay put and await reinforcements, but the enemy was counting on that. Vaergas ends up leading the attack anyway, and the other soldiers rally to the sight of the charge and they end up victorious, narrowly escaping being crushed by the enemy maneuver. This would have made him a hero save for the fact that he disobeyed a direct order, but they couldn't blacklist someone who had the support of his fellow soldiers, so they "promoted" him instead to a guard captain of a garrison that was very far away, received re-supplies infrequently (if at all), and was staffed by soldiers that wouldn't be posted anywhere else. That's basically how this character finds himself in the setting of my animation.

(Anyway, hope that wasn't too boring, but it fits his character; I imagine this scene he would probably be pleading with his superiors that they need to attack and probably being told to hold his position as the enemy around them becomes closes in for the attack.)

On the image itself, I'd say that the way you matched his uniform and details is spot on. You have the lines down perfect and emulated the style of the armor exactly as I would imagine them done by you; you even managed to get small details like the glove plating and the camera down, very nice attention to detail.

I notice the coloration you did similar to the photo-like "grainy" effect, I think that it suites the scene your trying to build and kinda does a good job of making it seem all the more chaotic and bleak (as urban warfare often is).

I notice that when you draw anthros you do the eyes a bit smaller, with a larger "snout" and taller ears (when compared to other anthro artists); I think that your style is closer to that of actual canine morphology, whereas other artists are more going for "closer to human" but with less obvious canine features. I will say that I really really like your style of anthro though, and they all look very very nice, it's just different from what you usually see with anthros. Anyway, just thought I'd point that out, not sure if that's useful information or not.

Finally the coloration is quite nice, particularly the photo effect I mentioned earlier; but the sparks in the foreground add some nice color to the image, and I think the fact that their not bound by the same scheme as the rest of the image helps them stand out more. One day you should consider doing an image where you have one kinda filter for most of it, and then something that clearly is a lot more bright and vivid in this image, like the sparks but on a larger scale (that could be very interesting, like the color effects they used on the movie "pleasant ville").

Ok, I'm going to finish this comment before I click off the page and accidentally wipe it out. Very very very nice work on this image and I am very very grateful for the fan art. Thank you very much. I will definitely make sure to keep commenting when I can.

Wow, man! This is the outstanding comment! And not boring at all I honestly read it all

Interesting coincidence of Vaergas' story and the picture. I'm glad that I could almost guess a situation he really had. Not the easy situation, of course, but sometimes you just must disobey an order to save your people.

I'd say that my anthros are more human-like when it's about a body, hands and legs (for example, I usually draw human-like legs, not more animal-like, like some other artists draw), but I'm trying to keep animal features when doing heads... And it's nice to know that I have a recognizable style! I'm glad to read it.

I already thought about making something in the way you said - with some vivid objects or just one object in the picture. It could turn out nicely...

Thank you for the comment one more time! I appreciate such detailed feedback and will be glad for sure to receive it in the future again!

Glad you liked it, I was afraid I went a bit overboard on this one. Ha ha.

Yeah, I suppose he could be radioing his commanding officers who are stuck in the ambush with him; it's not too much of a stretch. You could probably also adjust it so it's further in the future with his new command on Korsun. Either way I think it's the sorta scene this character would probably find themselves in. Also I kinda wanted the storyline to have some intrigue here and there to make it more interesting, basically the society he comes from values obedience and conformity almost over common sense, and often will go out of it's way to make an example out of "law breakers" even if the law isn't necessarily right in certain cases or the individuals aren't necessarily wrong. Kinda think of it as Code law if it were taken to a political extreme.

Yeah, I think your right. They definitely have very human shaped body/limbs; and your right, some artists will give their anthros "digipad" feet (that's where the ankle is further up and the foot is longer like that of a 4 legged animal). I think the only characters that I do less human shaped bodies are the dragon characters, mostly because I wanted them to stand out. But after having several conversations with other anthro fans about the future of my animation (before I actually started) we kinda figured that the closest to human we could make the characters the more broad appeal it would have with non anthro fans. I'm kinda trying to straddle the line here, in hopes that people will see my characters as "cartoons" rather than "furries" (which tends to have an automatic negative ramification for some).

Ah ok, sounds like it would be an interesting image; I look forward to seeing that.

Cool man of course, I don't always know what to say. But I'll always make an attempt to write something when I see your submissions posted. You've definitely earned my loyalty on this.

It was totally ok and interesting to read, no worries!

Intrigues are always interesting in stories for sure c:

Dragons are unique mythical creatures, so it's logical to make them different from other anthros in the story. Animals which I would probably do more animal-like bodies (legs actually) are kangaroos. I tried to make a kangaroo anthro with human-like legs and it didn't work nicely... I'll try again with animal-like legs.

Cool, glad you liked it.

Yeah, the trick is keeping things interesting and also believable; I want to try to build a sci fi premise that makes sense and can draw people into the story.

Ah, that makes sense. I suppose it varies from case to case; still I think when I was first searching for "tactical" looking anthros your submissions seemed to be some of the best I found (this was a while ago by the way, before I was following/commenting on your page).

Anyway, thanks again!
