Description
Rough concept for a Flash sideblock for our upcoming major project, [iMr] gaming clan Flash siteThis is only a demo, more for me to just visualize color/font/theme ideas than to function as something usable, so don't be too harsh lol.
Sorry for any bugs or glitches, again only a concept.
The final site is going to be mostly Flash although set up in a fashion like PHP-Nuke themes, so many sideblocks like this will be used.

Looks great, I'd love to see the full site it's intended for.

Nice job overall. I tried clicking the one over in Europe and though, "Aw, that'd be pretty cool if it would zoom in and each dot was a player." Then I went over to the U.S., and what do you know, exactly what I was looking for. Assuming you're going to follow through with it and make each country not only accessible, but make it so each member of the clan can designate their location, possibly based on entering their city and state/country. Also assuming that as this is a beta or whatnot, you're going to fix it so it's not all the same person. Three questions/suggestions:
1. Why is only the one dot in Texas blinking?
2. There should be a "back" to navigate back out once you zoom in.
3. Center it vertically, there's too much empty space at the bottom. I'm guessing you maybe took a version and scaled it down and took out Antarctica, but doing so leaves too much empty on the bottom.
Finally, one more question that's not so much about the flash itself: I haven't much played since Socom II, and I was wondering if since then, they've began to run an online stat system that you can access. If so, with a bit of XML work, the profile page could be filled quite nicely and be amazingly integrated.

Hey, thnx for the critique!
While these things you mentioned as well as others (I had alot of ideas planned for it I ddn't add) would definitely need to be in a final version, I chose not to add them in only to save time/work.
This block is a an example of the...em.."atmosphere" of the main site. However, just from making this demo I realized that such a "Player location" module would be pretty involved..and I'm not even sure I wanna make a real version of this thing now lol.
As for your questions,
-I only had one region selectable (North America) just for the sake of showin how it might work.
-Only one dot was blinking, again just to save time/work.
-Yes there would definitely be a Back button in the final build
-You're right about centering, infact in an official build it would likely have a much larger map which pans over in a satellite orbit fashion upon clicking.
As for Socom, I have read that they are launching a new web-based stat/clan/community center at an official website, which will work as you mentioned. I don't know the details of how this system is going to work yet, and unfortunately I bet everyone's gonna have to wait for it to be launched before clan sites and talented coders can figure out how to access it. However, I'm excited to see what I, as well as other gamers out there, will do with this system once Socom launches!
Thnx again for critique, hopefully there will be an official version of this soon

Do not be intimidated by it! Best thing to do is just jump in and experiment. That's how I learned...no classes or tutorials or anything, just have fun and it will come to you naturally.
