Description
Same dress as before. Detail of the skirting with the beads and a nice close up of the contrast piping. Also a close up of the cartridge pleating on the overskirt. Lastly, a standing up shot so you can see how the skirts hang (quite nicely, if I do say so myself, hand hemming and all).Related content

I am going to apologize ahead of time for my ignorance; however, I am doing research to make a faire gown for myself and looking at pictures of the ones you've made and I've also looked lots of other places, I would be thrilled if you would please tell me what all the pieces that you are wearing in this picture are with a brief description (not of how they are made, but just what they are). No one else has seemed to want to offer up something clear and comprehensive on all the pieces. BTW the dress looks absolutely fabulous, I've never tried making something this complicated before and it's wonderful motivation to see someone do such a great job. You look incredible in it!

Fie on those who won't help beginners, for they were once beginners too! As to your question on the smock deviation, I used Margo Anderson's patterns, they're excellent and amazing and have very clear directions. They're moderately expensive, but totally worth it, especially if you trace what you're making, because then you can use them again, or for other people. I always wear a smock underneath everything, of which I have two; the low necked one you see in this picture, with a square neck and more fitted sleeves, and the high necked one with puffy sleeves that you see in the other picture. Over that I wear my linen corset that has 1/4" steel boning, straps, and tabs that prevent uncomfortable digging around the waist. Then I put on a basic white linen petticoat (ALWAYS WEAR A PETTICOAT UNDERNEATH!!!) because it makes everything move and feel and look better. Then I put on the bum roll, a crescent shaped pad that makes my skirts stick out from my waist. Then I put on the red petticoat, then the orange overskirt, then the bodice that laces up the back with hidden grommets. I also have a caul on my head to cover my hair, and now I have a hat. Make sure that if you use grommets, you cover them with thread, or hide them. Do NOT use zippers or velcro. Try to avoid visible machine stitching, though for god's sake, if they're not going to see the stitching, use your machine, lol. And use cotton, linen, wool, or silk, because they look much better than any synthetic fabric, and they're way more comfortable in hot weather. I think I've covered everything, but if you have any other questions at all about anything, note me, and I'll be more than happy to help!

Is the high necked smock the one from Margo's patterns? if so how is it worn like that so it is open at the neckline?
