Description
Several people mentioned their coils unwind recently so i made this mini tutorial0. (not pictured) Make a coil - i used 0,4mm and 0,25mm wire for the tutorial. Leave an unwrapped tail/piece of 0,4mm wire on both ends
1. Take any kind of thicker wire and flatten it (with pliers, hammers or whatever you like). It does not have to be polished because you'll wrap over it
2. Take the coil from step #0. and wrap the tail around the flattened wire several times until it stops sliding over the flattened wire (you can squeeze it a bit with your pliers if you can't get it tight enough with your fingers)
3. Turn the stick over and continue wrapping with the coiled end. As you can see i am not holding the coil in photo #3. and it is not unwinding at all o/
4. Ta-daaaaaa! A tightly coiled coil
Tip: this way you'll get a slightly flatter large coil than you would when using plain round un-flattened wire. If you absolutely need a round coil then take your chain nose pliers and flatten only the first 2-3mm where you need to wrap the tail (tail=0,4mm wire in this case). That will be sufficient to anchor the coil. This way you only cannot let go of the coil until you are completely done with it and you finish it the way you started it (wit a 2-3mm flattened bit wrapped with the other tail) because it will unwind. When you finish the coil and anchor the other end too you'll have the same result as in the flat wire option only round

this is interesting to read. I really want to get a better understanding of the heady wire wrapping technique; but regardless how much i search i do not seem to find any valuable tutorials that are freely available. You seem to be the only one who has some in depth step by step write up. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

Chinaglrlsz -- I have also hunted the entire internet for "free" or "less expensive" Heady Tutorials, and the best one out there? is by this artist! IMNUM has a couple on their etsy page, three of them that I have purchased:
The "Fiddlehead Fern" (my name for it!), the serious wrap with the black stone; and the newest, which is a BUTTERFLY.
Noetic Effects has a "tutorial class" for $330+.00. IMNIUM's are under $35 !! Otherwise? Not much else out there, even the ones that SAY they are on YOUTUBE, are teasers to go to their site and purchase either very $$$$ tuts, or their finished products.
Best of Luck!

Haven't been brave enough to try this, but this makes it a little less intimidating, thank you!
