Yeah! Figuring out how you like to do each of those
techniques is also part of working on it too, so it's understandable
that they vary from piece to piece.
The hair on one piece was just really sharp and...I guess stringy
is a good word for it too. It just wasn't very soft at all, very point
and stark. It made the hair look less like it was part of a fluid
motion and more just strings going everywhere. Ahg, but not that
bad, that makes it sound horrible. IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN. I would
just try fiddling with your brush/pen settings when you paint, and
messing with the opacity of your hair layers.

First of all. The stock choices are gorgeous and go together amazingly.
The mane and tail look absolutely amazing, like drop dead gorgeous. I totally envy the way you put your highlights. If you don't mind my asking how many steps does it take for you to get that effect?
Grounding is great. In the stock it shows that the horse's hooves are gone (covered by the flying dirt) and the redraw on them looks so realistic.
The repainting is amazing (do a tutorial I need to know.) You got all the really needed details to pop out for the viewer.
The background lighting is a pretty big light source. I noticed how when you did the grass or ground on the bottom you'd have to be doing lighting on it. I think that the area of light could have been a bit bigger on the grass, but I like what you did with it being the only light spot really, dramatic.
I hope you found something in this critique. I know I really loved this piece to death and can't wait to see future manipulations.

Absolutely beautiful work here. The stunning atmosphere and landscape behind this equine makes me feel at peace. The title for this manip is good as well. The horse is also well lit and can easily perfect this artwork
