Chickens are birds that are known for it that they can't fly well.
And Scootaloo is not able to fly, which turned out in "Ponyville Confidential".
That's the mean thing about it.

But I still think that it's possible to do jokes about chicken-Scootaloo.
I think there's a difference between those jokes in which you laugh AT Scootaloo (and those are the mean ones) and those in which you laugh WITH Scootaloo (metaphorically of course).
The difference is thin, but there is.
Plus, if Scootaloo has a problem, like anyone else, don't you think that the better way to get at it is with laughter?

That's the problem, you can't laugh WITH Scootaloo over those chicken jokes.
Granted that Scootaloo knows that chickens are birds that can't fly well, and I'm sure she does know that, imagine that Scootaloo hears that joke somewhere or someone says to Scootaloo "You're a chicken!" she would feel remembered on the fact she isn't able to fly because of this comparison.
And that would make her sad.
