Description
In medieval warfare if you wanted to get through plate armor in hand to hand combat your go-to tool was a spiked warhammer. It's not a fancy pants weapon with a lot of florishes, it's a heavy steel spike that applies a lot of force onto a small as point as possible. The Common Chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) has a lot of facets to it's biology and behavior but to our discussion there are three relevent points.
Chimpanzees are quite capable tool users and can learn some sophisticated tasks.
An adult Chimpanzee has about five times the upper body strength as a human.
Chimpanzees can be downright viscous bastards and are capable of coordinated tactics.
As such, a troop of angry Chimpanzees clad in armor and armed with warhammers would be a small force of Knight's worst goddamn nightmare.
