Description
While Spyro and Cynder stare at ‘Corruption’, Cynder asks: “So you’re Corruption? You’re just another elemental dragon, like those other eight elemental dragons we just fought. The dark dragon at that point begins to laugh and corrects Cynder: “I’m not like those dragons, for you see, I made them.”
“What, you created them?!” Spyro and Cynder shout in unison.
“Well… changed them. Those dragons were nothing but elements that were absorbed from you dragons. They were fire, ice, electricity, earth, wind, shadow, poison and fear… but that’s all, just elements.”
As Spyro and Cynder continue to fix their eyes on the dark dragon, it continues: “But there were a few problems.”
“Problems…?” Spyro confusedly enquires.
As the dark dragon nods, it goes on to say: “The problem which I have is that, I can only change forms, not create them. So I need the knowledge to be able to makes those changes. So unless someone uses the dark crystals, my powers would be limited.”
While Spyro and Cynder quickly glance at each other, Cynder tells the dark dragon: “But if you were getting knowledge by absorbing it from all of the dragons… why would you have any problems?”
When the dark dragon hears what Cynder has to say, it explains: “Because it was only when Malefor came back, that’s when I started to learn more about the Dragons Realms, about its history, the creatures that live in them, as well as the problems that it’s facing. When Malefor changed the fury crystals into dark crystals, it was then I started to understand everything… and I grew, changed, adapted.”
While Spyro and Cynder listen to the dragon, something begins to bother the purple dragon, which makes him ask: “But… the wolves created the dark crystals… there was a dark crystal around before Malefor came back. How do you explain that?”
As ‘Corruption’ walks nearer to the two dragons, the dark dragon tries to clarify the situation: “You’re right there was… Spyro, Cynder many years ago there was a newly born purple dragon, the first of his kind. His name was Malefor. He was the first dragon to be able to use all five basic powers: fire, ice, electricity, earth and wind.”
“Yeah we know about that! The Guardians have explained that before!” Cynder shouts.
“Yes… but did you know that learning the five basic elements helped that dragon to learn new powers?”
When Spyro hears this, he quickly reacts: “Wait… so Malefor started to learn those new powers, when he learned the five basic abilities?”
“Correct. As Malefor learnt new abilities, he became more powerful. Soon he was learning abilities that even dragons didn’t know that could be learnt. And one of them was corruption.”
As Spyro and Cynder begin to worry about what ‘Corruption’ has said, it continues: “When Malefor was sent here, he knew he just had to wait for his army to attack the Dragon Temple. He taught some of his army to use corruption, so that they could do what he wished… but his plan didn’t go as well as he hoped.”
“What do you mean?” Spyro asks confusedly.
“His plan was to get the purple dragon and for the army to use corruption on that egg. But before the army could get to the eggs, you were already away from the area, so the army had to… improvise.”
As the dark dragon looks deep into Cynder’s eyes, the dragoness starts to mutter: “So that’s when they used me…”
“Yes Cynder, Malefor’s army couldn’t get the purple dragon he had hoped for… so they had to use another dragon. And that’s when I met you… you were so young, so helpless… you were useless to them. So I helped you to change into something that would make others respect you.”
At that point Cynder snaps back: “I never asked you to change me! I was a hatchling-”
“Yes and I was just an element. When Malefor’s army used the corruption on me, I was just an element been used to make you into an unstoppable force.”
Spyro next questions the dark dragon: “But if knew you were being used, why help Malefor?”
“Because I became more than just an element … I was more powerful, more useful, better than the other elements. Malefor allow me to become ‘someone’, rather than just be ‘something’. That’s what Malefor gave me, however things started to change.”
“You mean… the dark crystals?” Cynder quickly asks.
As the dark dragon nods, it goes on to say: “The wolves started to create a dark crystal, hoping that they could use their form of corruption to make you, Cynder, do as they wished… and it worked. While you had that dark crystal inside of you, I could feel my power begin blocked by that other element! I was unable to control my actions, I became useless!”
Spyro at that moment replies back: “So… there were two of you?”
The dark dragon at that point begins to grow angry and yells back: “Don’t you dare compare me to that ‘element’! That ‘Corruption’ was nothing like me! It stole my power, my control!”
While the dark dragon starts to calm down, it next continues: “But after years of waiting, that’s when I met that fire dragon, who was better than all the others.”
When Cynder hears what the dark dragon has said, she questions it: “You mean Flamzen?”
“Yes Flamzen… a truly remarkable dragon. I watched as many fire dragons died so pathetically… but Flamzen… he just kept on fighting. Even though the wounds were numerous, he wouldn’t give up. And then it happened… the crystal came out of you Cynder. That moment, I watched that crystal fall and as soon as it reached the ground I knew what needed to be done. So I headed back to the wolves… and I did anything I could to destroy each one of those wolves, making suffer slowly for using me like that. Once I did the best I could, I went back to capturing the Guardians again.”
As Spyro and Cynder listen to what is being said, Spyro proceeds to ask: “But… the apes released the power inside that crystal.”
“Yes… and you fought it when you were in Alavar.”
“So that wasn’t you?”
The dark dragon at that moment breaks away in laughter and clarifies to the two dragons about what has happened: “Spyro when you fought against me and Cynder, you managed to beat me. And that’s when it happened. As I got sucked into this forsaken place, Malefor left, just shortly after you left the Convexity, along with Cynder.”
“So why help Malefor? If he left you behind, why did you help him?” Cynder questions the dragon.
“Because like I said before… he gave me something I never had. After years of being part of Cynder, it helped me to become something more than just an element… I had life. So I help Malefor because I knew that if I went against him, I would go back to become something meaningless.”
“But you were Malefor’s slave.” Spyro replies back in confusion.
“Maybe so… but I had this realm to myself. When Malefor changed all those fury crystals into dark crystals, I started to learn more and more about the Dragon Realms, as each dragon got near to each dark crystal. I learnt about their history, their wants, their fears… I was become more like a dragon than just an element. And as I learnt more, I started to realise that Malefor’s goal was understandable, but… it wasn’t right.”
It’s at that point Cynder shouts: “So why did you keep relying on those dark crystals?! They have been ruining-”
“Ruining?! No Cynder, those crystals have been making creatures that have used them better. They have got stronger because they had the dark crystal’s power flowing through them.”
“You’re wrong! They became your puppets! You just use them like weapons! They helped you because you make them think they are they allies!”
“Those crystals are the only hope for change in the Dragon Realms! The reason why the Dragon Realms is suffering is because there is never any change! Look at what I’ve done in this place… you saw the sky, the land, the life in this place… I’ve changed all of that.”
Spyro at that moment just shakes his head along with Cynder and replies back: “You call flowers that try and bite us an improvement?”
“Why yes… how else would they feed?”
Cynder at that point yells back at ‘Corruption’: “Are you serious?! The rain makes the flowers grow! You don’t need to change them… if you change them they will do more harm to the creatures, not help them!”
The dark dragon just shrugs off Cynder’s comment and explains: “But that is the problem… there are too many weak dragons, too many creatures that fight against you. If you want to save the Dragon Realms, you will have to get rid of the weak and allow the strong to survive.”
At that point, both Spyro and Cynder answer back in unison: “You’re wrong!”
As the dark dragon hears the reply, it just shakes its head and tries to reason with the purple dragon: “Spyro I know you think that I’m the enemy… but I can help the Dragon Realms.”
When the two dragons hear what the dark dragon has said, Cynder quickly replies back: “Spyro can save the Dragon Realms. I know-”
“Are you sure about that?” the dark dragon asks.
“Yes I’m sure! Spyro has helped the Dragon Realms once before… and he can and will do it again.”
“Cynder did Spyro tell you about the dream he had? If you knew what went through his head, you would understand just how little he cares about you.”
When Cynder listens to the dragon’s words, she quickly turns to Spyro and enquires in confusion: “Spyro… what did you dream about?”
Spyro at that moment scratches the ground with his claws. When Cynder sees this, she begins to fear the worst and quickly responds back: “Spyro please tell me!”
As Spyro gazes deep into Cynder’s eyes, he knows what he needs to do. He next explains: “Cynder… I dreamt that I got lost… but as you looked for me, you met up with Frostus and Emer-”
“You saw Frost and Emer?!”
“Yes… but then you found me. And when that happened… you saw… the darker side of me.”
“You mean-”
“Yes… like what happened to me when I saw Ignitus die. But Cynder I dreamt that… that I… that I killed Frostus and Emer… and then I turned on you.”
As Cynder hears what Spyro is saying, she begins move closer to him and whispers: “Spyro it was just a dream…I know you wouldn’t hurt me.”
“Cynder I…”
Suddenly Spyro turns to ‘Corruption’ and shouts at him: “Why did you do all this?!”
As Cynder starts to wonder what Spyro is thinking, the dark dragon just ignores the purple dragon, which causes Spyro to shout back: “Why did you make us think Malefor was returning?! You made the wolves believe you were Malefor! You made us think that this attack was part of Malefor’s plan!”
“And you forgot to add that I made Malefor believe that he had full control of the dark crystals.”
“What… so when Malefor used the dark crystals on his creations, he thought that he made the dark crystals in a way that would make the creatures obey him… but instead-”
“I stole Malefor’s power and used it against him! He thought he had everything under control, but what he didn’t realise was that I was just doing as he wished.”
Cynder at that moment begins to be heated up with anger and yells back: “So you were going to just allow our realm to be destroyed?!”
“Well it was a case of waiting… if Malefor destroyed the Dragon Realms; he would have destroyed himself along with that realm, which wouldn’t have affected me. But somehow you managed to stop him… so I had to resort to another way round.”
At that moment the dark dragon shouts out: “Crystal! Release the corruption I have created into the Dragon Realms!”
As Spyro and Cynder hear what the dragon has to say, Spyro answers back: “Stop this! Stop this right now!”
“No Spyro, you and Cynder are filled with the same corruption that made me who I am. The new Dragon Realms will be designed for those who deserve to live, the strong and the powerful. Spyro, Cynder you two will be live a life together because when you are together, you’re a powerful force.”
It’s at that moment Spyro explains his viewpoint: “You are just element! You were a mistake that Malefor made! I will save the Dragon Realms and I will stop you from corrupting it, not matter the cost!”
As the dark dragon laughs, it asks Spyro: “And how can you stop me from doing that? You are in my realm now!”
Suddenly the two dragons notice that a dark barrier is blocking the only way out. When Cynder sees this, she tells the dark dragon: “Then you leave us no choice…we will have to stop you first.”
While the dark dragon laughs, it replies back with over-confidence: “Stop me? I would love to see you try.”
Just as Spyro and Cynder are about to fight the dark dragon, back in the Dragon Realms, the dragons notice the dark crystals are spreading its darkness over the ground. As slowly creeps out, Emerain and Shimmara sees what is happening, which causes Shimmara to push the earth dragoness away from the darkness that is spreading. However it continues to spread, Emerain terrifying cries out: “What is that?!”
As Shimmara looks at it, she replies back: “I don’t know, but I’m not getting anywhere near it.”
Meanwhile Frostus, Cyril and Volteer gazes at the darkness spreading from the dark crystals, which causes Volteer to ask: “Could the corruption from those sinister crystals be diffusion the terrain?”
Cyril at that point tells the two dragons: “Make sure nobody gets near to those crystals… who knows what they will do.”
As Frostus hears Cyril words, something suddenly comes to his mind. All of the sudden, Frostus quickly heads towards Warfang without saying a word. When the two Guardians see what the ice dragon does, they quickly look at each other in confusion, but then swiftly follow the ice dragon to see where he is going.
But as this is happening, Flamzen is back away from the dark crystal, as he watches the darkness spreading. However as he backs away, he suddenly remember the other crystal that was nearby. As the fire dragon turns around, he unexpectedly notices the darkness trying to reach out to him. The fire dragon at that moment dives out of the way and hurriedly gets to the sky. While he watches the darkness spreading, he sees both Shimmara and Emerain flying towards him. It’s at that moment, he heads straight for them, hoping they will know what is happening.
As Flamzen is doing that, Terrador and Galeson watch as the darkness slowly spreads. It’s at that moment Terrador asks the wind dragon: “So this was Malefor’s plan?”
“It seems that way. If he can’t destroy it, ruining it would be the next best thing… I wonder if Spyro and Cynder are doing something about this.”
Suddenly the two notice Frostus heading towards them. As the ice dragon gets nearer to them, he quickly tells them in a panicked manner: “Terrador! Terrador!”
As the Earth Guardian hears the ice dragon’s words, he replies back: “Calm down! What’s wrong?”
While Frostus tries to calm himself, he informs to the earth dragon: “You told me to put all of those dark crystals together, so that they wouldn’t affect us in that battle against the wolves!”
As soon as Terrador and Galeson hear what Frostus has said, they realise what the problem is. At that moment Terrador asks: “Where did you put the crystals?”
While Frostus goes quiet, Terrador begins to notice the cheetahs and moles running from the city. At that moment Terrador enquires: “You put them in the Forbidden Passage, didn’t you?”
Frostus then admits to the truth: “I’m sorry… I thought that was the safest place… I’ve got to stop that darkness spreading.”
Terrador at that point grabs hold of Frostus and answers back: “No! We don’t know what we are facing…”
As Cyril and Volteer catch up to the group, Galeson gazes at the darkness spreading. After a few seconds, the wind dragon realises what it may be and tells the group: “If the crystals corrupted the minds of the dragons, maybe the spreading of this darkness could be a way for the crystals to try and corrupt as many minds as possible.”
Cyril nods at what Galeson has said and follows on: “It’s true that Malefor used the apes and the wolves to fight against us. So if Malefor is trying to start another Dragon War, this is going to something we have to stop now.”
Terrador at that point asks the group: “Right, but how can we stop something like this?”
Frostus at that moment gets an idea and asks his father: “Dad… where’s that crystal the cheetahs found? Maybe we can somehow use that against this darkness.”
“You might have a point there. We will need to find Prowlus. Once we find him we can ask him where he put it. Once we have it… we will use the portal Spyro and Cynder used and aid them in the battle against Malefor.”
As the group agree to the plan, the dragons begin their search for Prowlus. However as that is happening, Flamzen has met up with daughter and Shimmara. As Flamzen approaches them, he asks: “Emer, Shimmara are you OK?”
As the two nod their heads slightly, Emerain enquires: “Dad I’m scared… what is that stuff?”
“So you don’t know neither… this isn’t good.”
While the three go quiet, Flamzen quickly gets an idea and questions the electric dragoness: “Shimmara can you stay with Emer?”
“Yes of course… what are you going to do?”
“I know you two will not agree with me on this, but… I’m going to help Spyro and Cynder. If Malefor has managed to do this, who knows what could be happening to those two dragons right now.”
As Emerain and Shimmara look at each other, the earth dragoness tells her father: “Dad you can’t help them-”
“Look Emer I know this isn’t going to easy, but I have to try and help them.”
“No Dad you can’t help them-”
“Emer I’m going to help them-”
“Dad, look at the portal!”
While Flamzen starts to wonder what his daughter is saying, he gazes to where the portal is. But as he gazes at the area, he suddenly realises why he can’t help them. Shimmara at that moment informs to the fire dragon, with tears in her eyes: “Flamzen… we can’t help them… they’re on their own now.”
As Flamzen just gazes at the area he’s looking at, all he can see is darkness across the ground, with no sign of a portal anywhere. While the dragonesses break away a few tears, Flamzen mutters to himself: “They’re trapped… they’re stuck… can’t we do anything to save them?”
While the three try to think of an answer, the only answer they can come up with, is silence…
