Genetic composition has a bit (or more) to do with it too. Pigment is kind of the short lame answer.
When they blush though, it is somewhat tinted. Just not as much as humans would be when their face gets red. They have a lot of internal differences than people; Everything is a bit "out of the box". There really is a rainbow (almost) of blood types that Neoruinians have, but Speckles here, is kind of like a genetic defect. The light blue like that isn't common.

I've kind of thought of them more as a "alternate reality" type of race, rather than "aliens". "Alien" just seems like the easiest and appropriate response without needing further explanation.

Haha, I was gonna say, if it's more pigment, his skin should be blue-brown, but it could definitely be different pigments than melanin.

Humanoid could be a good word for them. I've taken to calling some of my races human sub-species, but I'm guessing that the Neoruinians are a bit too far diverged for such a label.

I suck with terms.
It usually takes me a bit to figure out just how I'm trying to describe something sometimes.

Yeah, I've referred to them as humanoid. I really like the idea of the human form (Not just trying to be lazy and uncreative), but different. I wouldn't say "Modified" though. This is why I like to describe as alternate reality, rather than "alien". The looks are just too similar for me to really want to allow that XD; Plus, "alternate", you really aren't as creatively bound. In my opinion.

I've always loved the idea of human sub-species too. o3o I just have never created anything much of that.

I just have a variety of interests, so working with these guys here, I tend to think about the planet, and all of the details. The history, the current wars, the animals on the planet, technology level, culture, government/politics, elements, seasons, language...
Yeah, I've already figured the percentages of their blood types and all that jazz, as well as developed a written language form much different than alphabetic/earth language jazz. And much. Much. More.

I guess you could say I'm just a little obsessive compulsive about the details.

Haha, I do the same thing. I've recently got back into worldbuilding and dug up a lot of old notes. Pretty much everything has to be redone to reflect changes and knowledge I've gained, but, it's there. *brain writing failure* I love detailed worlds and find them very attractive. Hence why I can like the Star Wars Episode 1-3 movies and Avatar; I don't care about the story, their worlds are just so well developed and living.

I always feel like I need to do more and more research, which is why I haven't done much with my world for a while... but, I guess now that I'm no longer in an OCT, I have the time for that. |D

Ah! Same! Except I haven't watched Starwars in a really long time. To tell the truth, I'm not really into a lot of Alien/scifi as much as I SHOULD be. xD;;

I really loved Avatar, and mostly for that fact also. The story wasn't bad either though. People who complain about it must also remember that the story was cut into 3rd's. Yes. There are going to be 2 more. u8

I really don't like how people miss all of that world detail though. All of that creation, just gone to waste-- even those who do like the movie tend to overlook that. Those who don't like it and overlook those details...UGH I just rage inside XD;

When I finished watching the movie, I really wanted to watch more though. Learn more about the environment and what is going on in the creator's head. It was just so entrancing. I would really like it if they had some sort of book published out to look at everything...

Same same. XD I need some research also. It never hurts. Studying history and life how it is, also sparks more ideas, no? I'm wayyyy more into history, statistics, geographical and politics side than the science factor though. OTL It shows, I know. I know just enough to get around though. T:

I'd love to see some original non-oct work you've got o3o You should start investing more time in that. Hell, you're at the skill level to get things published easily, so you should really look into that. I'm just waiting for myself to draw more efficient before I begin illustrating some things and such xD;

Yesss I know about the 2 Avatar sequels. Much excited.

Man, I was trying to tell a friend how simply immersive Avatar was for its richness in detail, but she said, "I can't get immersed in something with no story." I'm pretty sure she still hasn't seen it. That pisses me off... along with exclamations of "it's just Dancing With Wolves IN SPACE!" Everything is recycled off another nowadays, but it doesn't mean that they can't be fresh and invigorating, which Avatar was (to me).

Ah, I still need to set aside a day to delve into the Pardorapedia. Lots in there, I've heard. There's also a lot to learn about it through TVTropes' It Just Bugs Me page for Avatar.

I'm lucky to have my brother to fill my gaps in knowledge. He knows like, everything from managing politics to theoretical physics, but he just insists that he's more "confident in his bullshit." Still... he's gonna be moving away within a year, I won't be able to rely on him much longer. D:

I'm going to endeavour to get into original stuff starting this holiday. I don't want to get into the main stories because they need a lot of reworking... But, fortunately, the vastness of the world opens up a lot of room for side-stories I can experiment with. I plan on doing some LEO matches that will also be able to function as stand-alone comics for my universe. I don't think I'm quite good enough to be published right now, and I desperately need portfolio-worthy materials.
