Very true!~
Maybe she always had it...I wonder what her mother'd think of her now...we never get to know ANYTHING about her mum. There are loads of different views, portrayals etc. of her...What d'you think she's like?

What do I think about Deryn's Mom? Hm.. I don't know, I hadn't really thought much about it actually. She seemed kind of pushy, especially around the whole skirts thing with Deryn, but then again she did sort of allow Deryn joining the air service (? I don't actually remember what her mom said or did about that) She didn't rat Deryn out or anything at least.
I think she'd probably be proud of Deryn now. I mean, she landed a prince after all. I'd be a proud mom if I were her, haha.

What do you think?

Well, she *does* seem pretty pushy, and anti-feminist a teensy bit. Maybe she just didn't want Deryn to get killed.
And yes, I'd be proud of my niece (or daughter, I suppose, but right now, I DO NOT WANT KIDS. Or romance. Might change in the future, but for now, I am Not Available.) if SHE defied society, masqueraded as the opposite gender, fell in love with a really wonderful and caring person, had said love returned (Both Deryn and my [hypothetical] niece are just that awesome. [She'd have to be, I'm her aunt! And I *would* teach her stuff.]) by said wonderful and caring person, and ended up becoming a boffin and even more of an unbelievably cool person than she already was. (And I'd be proud of my [still hypothetical] nephew, too.)

Her not getting killed is probably a lot of it. And wow, that was quite a convoluted statement of opinion! Lol, luckily I followed it Jw, if you don't want to have kids, why not make your daughter hypothetical instead of your niece or nephew? lol

I see the word 'bamf' is already taken, but that's what came to mind as soon as I saw this. xD
