I'm lucky to have some spare time as I'm retired - I guess for others trying to fit it all into a working day is very hard

Usually it takes always several days until a complex piece of work is done and you are satisfied with it. A few hours to create a new picture wouldn't be enough time.
Since you are retired you could be very productive with stock images. That's good to know because I always check back to my previous stock resources to see if I can find something I'm looking for.
