Description
This is another work using a quote, this time by Steve Vai; 'God gave the gift of artists so that people can dream while they are awake' To me, it is a particularly meaningful quote, being a dreamer myself. I used a laser cutter on a CAD/CAM system (based on Corel Draw) to cut this out, but the wood was prepared and finished my hand. The lazer cutter usage may mean this section isnt appropriate for it, if it isnt, lt me know and i will move it. THe design was handdrawn, then scanned and outlined in Illustrator, then into Corel Draw for 'printing'edit - better pic, less grainy and a better angle

We did a similar-themed assignment for sculpture class last year. A word, made from wood, made in an interesting way. I think you would have wiped the floor with us

this is great, absolutely "work of chinese" it's a translation of a spanish saying which means it's a bunch of little detail that's almost pointless but makes it what it is, amazing

i havnt actually. I did a drawing inspired by joe satriani, and took it to his concert and got it signed (i had a back stage pass cos satch is my fave musician ever) I would have loved to take this to show steve vai when he toured, but sadly i couldnt afford the VIP ticket. maybe next time he comes over to the UK. I would also love to make it into a real guitar, but not convinced my know how and practical skills are up to the task

an interesting point, i would try it, but that would mean a hell of a lot of filing as the cutter doesnt do anything but vertical cuts. it may well be worth it, but at the moment i only have the one, and no resourses to make another

i went the longway round - scanned my drawing into illustrator, used the bezier tool to draw it out over the top, but then i had to copy that into corel draw and then neaten it up so the angles were correct and everything lined up. my school only used corel draw for the laser cutter
