The overall look and composition is very well done.
You did a really good job of adjusting and composing the background image and rock, and putting in the rocks cast shadow.
The bird looks great in the composition. There is a small amount of fringe on underbelly. If the color saturation is out of place, it is easy enough to decrease it. I assume you wished to have as you do, compositionally for fantasy effect. One thing you could have chosen to do is to add motion blur to the wings, which would make the wings look like they are in motion. It is super easy to do in PS and I assume GIMP, just look under Filters > Blur.
On the girl, you did really well transforming her, as far as hue and tones go. The super-bright/blown-out edges along her arm can be repaired and would improve her.
When making drastic changes in hues and tones, there is a big danger of making it look plastic, a loss of the original textures, which is what happened to her hair, unless you wanted that effect to make it look more fantasy.
Another thing affected when making big changes is that your selection edges become very abrupt/sharp and you get these bright neon edges sometimes. Then it can look really out of place.
There is a trick you can do to help bring back texture, is you can clone over the hair (new layer) from the original hair. What you do is open the original girl file, option-click with the Clone tool to target it, then go back to your new image and start painting on a new blank layer. You can then drop the layer transparency and effect erase in areas, etc, to blend old and new. Or you can use it to start over on the hair.
