Description
Photo was taken on 23rd November 2023 at 12:12pm UK time. These two signs took the shortest amount of time combined to draw, which surprised me since I've never drawn a crab in my life until then, and I thought that one would be more challenging
Anyways here I depicted Gemini as twin males, and Cancer as a female. This was partially due to personal opinions, but also because of a few articles I found talking about how the Zodiac signs have associated genders depending on their elemental sign.
From what I read:
Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are classed as "Fire Signs"
Taurus, Virgo, and Capricorn are classed as "Earth Signs"
Gemini, Libra, and Aquarius are classed as "Air Signs"
Cancer, Scorpio, and Pisces are classed as "Water Signs"
With that in mind:
Fire Signs & Air Signs are considered to be masculine, and the Earth Signs & Water Signs are considered to be feminine.
Now on to the designs.
- Gemini: The main reason behind the two being male (besides the elements) was based on the sign's association with the myth of Castor & Pollux in Greek Mythology.
- The guy on the left is meant to be Castor, the guy on the right is meant to be Pollux.
- According to Greek mythology, Pollux is the son of the god Zeus, so I gave one part of his hair a bolt-like shape to further imply that.
- Cancer: Appears as a regular crab.
- I added details to make them different, such as the swirls and the small 'gemstones' portraying the Moon in its various phases, since Cancer's ruling 'planet' is the Moon.
- The 'stone' inbetween the eyes is meant to depict a Full Moon, and also one of the sign's many associated birthstones- Moonstone.
- I chose to include the symbols of each sign somewhere on their bodies. Gemini's symbol is located on Castor's upper left arm & Pollux's upper right arm, while Cancer's symbol is located on the centre of the crab shell. No reason for this, just a personal decision.
- Also the colours I did the names in are a small hint as to what each sign's palette could be. Keep in mind though I wouldn't base the final palettes solely on their associated colours, there are other factors that would be in play for them.
Anyways let me know what you think about these!^^
