Description
The ladybug is the Dutch symbol for the movement against pointless violence. This includes - but not limited to - unprovoked agression and abuse towards those of another race, religion or sexual orientation. Intolerance and simple impatience is the cause for a lot of unnecessary tension all around the world these days. And, most of it is triggered by fear - fear of someone who is just different. We're ALL different, people. Get over it.You know I don't usually preach, but sometimes a little lesson goes a long way
EDIT: i had a change of heart, and put colour back in the shot
I used a reversing ring, so the EXIF is screwy. aperture was actually F/22

Lovely shot and lovely critters to photograph. I like this photograph very much. The bit of colour gives it some nice kick.

The message is nice (I know about those dutch ladybugs of course) and I must say the color version looks better than the black/white one, too.

the floor does seem a lot lot brighter than the bugs though, and i think you wanted us to look at the bugs first. so the brightness might have to be skewed in favor of the bugs. ?

well, actually the black sky - white floor is my intention, wanted to have high contrasting duality there. just another example of "different"... I don't think it detracts attention from the bugs though, they're still right in face

i did use a flash, it caused some glare on their shiny shells which i did remove in PS. What i'd really like it one of those ring flashes

yeah ring flashes are awesome with macro, pricy though.

it's the cheapest and one of the best ways of making extreme macro shots..it allows you to attach a lens to your camera, backwards.

what an excellent symbol for opposition to violence. I always associate ladybugs with innocent days sitting on the grass at school, letting them crawl over our hands and legs.
nice macro detail here...although the grey of the bodies is probably not as interesting as the red they come in

yeah i tried to make it work with the bright red colors, but for some reason the B&W just spoke to me more. Color belonged more under category insect than conceptual, i found.
ladybugs are far and away the most cute of all instects!
