Description Hi there!

Haven't had much time for personal stuff lately.
Since I had to paint a lot at work, I often didn't felt like painting stuff at home. Maybe I'm just a bit demotivated lately

Anyhow I painted something very quick this evening, since I was kinda locked at home. ... friggin snowstorm in montreal.
I don't even know how much snow fell today. Maybe something like 60 centimeters within 12 hours?
I got somehow inspired by this white stuff and had to do something out of it ..

Watching my janitor carving labyrinthic ways thru the snow with a "souffleuse" and knowing I'll be back in Austria for skiing. I thought I might combine those two ideas to a conceptart

Some facts about it:

Software: Photoshop CS2
Hardware: Wacom Intuos 2 A4
Snow: 60 centimeter
Temperature: -20 (a.k.a. minus fu$%)
Time: 57 minutes, with saving and exporting exactly 1 hour.
Tutorial: will follow, since I recorded my self for educational purposes
Fun: Yes!

gorgeous, especially for a speed piece - you've got that leaden light just right to these eyes

Delicious. I usually critique like a madwoman, but your work leaves me speechless! I really, really adore your work and hope I can be 10% as good one day.

I think I nearly drooled when I read the part about the tut. I am SO looking forward to it.

Really cool, especially since it was so quick. The whole idea is quite fitting to your inspiration-I've never had that much snow but I've seen it and later on it seems to look like that. FOr -20 degrees is that fahrenheit? I've never thought of 20 below very cold on the centigrade scale. But then again we get 40-50 below with wind chill... Overall really cool painting, atmosphere is nice and clear but fades out to make the labyrinth go on, and on, and on.

haha, 1hour... X_X

"-20 (a.k.a. minus fu$%)" ????

this sounded like you were a japanese who tried to speak in hungarian: they says "hΓΊsz"(20) like "fus"...
how is it that? O.o

Damn it! WHy do people posess these wacom powers! I'm in aew as it is already with my wacom skill-cap haha.

Looking great bud, love the somehow simplicity of it but in the same time it's pretty tech.

I'd pull that off in like 8 hours, that's what makes you the bigger man .

I'm impressed, and your use of color and texture is fantastic here. It looks painterly and realistic at the same time.

Not only would someone be lost for eternity, but they'd freeze to death as well! Plus, their body would never be found. That was an odd train of thought....
Anyway, this picture looks really nice. I love it.

Speed paint? Your stuff is absolutely insane. I can't believe my eyes.

Love the maze. I'd hate to get lost in that though. It really reminds me of Planescape: Torment. I like the mood your scenes catch.

... If I'd be able to, I'd ship you some for free!
So you can place it wherever you feel like, on car tops in front of house entries, blocking traffic, humans and animals, etc.
Thanks for your comment!

Such a great concept! If only I could paint something half this amazing, even if it took me an entire week to paint, then I'd feel less incompetent This is wonderful work, I especially like the way you've painted the mountains on the right and the general texture of the ice. Love it!

check out my tutorial on my website: [link]
I know it's very quick, but ... well, it is very simple too, since it's just a linear two point perspective ...

Temiree In reply to inetgrafx [2007-12-18 20:08:36 +0000 UTC]

Yep, saw it a little while after I posted my question. Really interesting technique. Just wish I had the computer power to do some of the effects you used.

Mind if I ask what RAM and processor you have?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

inetgrafx In reply to Temiree [2007-12-18 22:04:55 +0000 UTC]

my machine at home isn't really fast, since it's now around two years old ...
It's a dual core amd x2 4400+, with 2 GB RAM.
At my workplace I'm on a dual dual core with 12GB RAM.
But Photoshop anyhow only utilizes 2.7 GB on 64Bit and 1.7 GB on 32Bit.
Rather make sure you got a fast Raid-0 and lighting fast RAMs.

Temiree In reply to inetgrafx [2007-12-20 20:29:11 +0000 UTC]

Impressive. I need to get myself something like that hehe. I get extreme lag smudging things or bluring with textured brushes.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

inetgrafx In reply to Temiree [2007-12-20 23:38:17 +0000 UTC]

it's because you have the spacing switched on!
Try to switch it off, and move the brush slower, instead of forcing the PC to keep up your strokes.
Hope that helps ...

Thanks for your comment!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Temiree In reply to inetgrafx [2007-12-20 23:56:21 +0000 UTC]

Actually, I just tried with spacing switched off. Same amount of lag, if not more.

As for moving it slower, I'll try that. Hope I got the patience.

Thanks!

I agree with the comment about the left side of this; but i really do like the way you have caught the feel of of the reflectivity of ice in different stages of translucency and transparency.

lol, I was watching them shovelling, while drinking my coffee and waiting for the janitor clearing the garage.
I think at this time of the year a garage is priceless. The fight for parking lots in Montreal must be a nightmare ...
