Description
Use the BPM Finder to find the BPM of a song.
What is this?
This is a little tool to help other animators to sync their cycle animations perfectly to the music, avoiding those times when you play an animation and it slowly unsyncs with the music until its completely out of beat.
As an animator, how do I use it?
If you want to make a little animation to sync to a song you want, you have to find the BPM of the song first (you can use the BPM Finder mentioned above), then you have to decide the speed of the animation (FPS), and then you can calculate the Frames Per Beat, which are the number of frames that each beat of the song lasts. For example, if my song has 120BPM and I want my animation to have 24FPS, then I should use 12 frames for each beat, which means that on the frames 12, 24, 36, etc I will draw the character in an extreme position and then draw the inbetweens.
Since you cant have half frames, the FPB shouldn't have a decimal value, so play around with the FPS (or even the BPM if you want to change the speed of the song) until you get a whole number. Another option to fix this, is deleting the decimal part of the numbers and then pressing Activate, the tool will give you 3 alternatives and hopefully one of them will have only whole numbers or values that you can use.
As a non-animator, how do I use it?
CLICK BUTTONS AND MAKE SOUNDS! Or if you think it could help an animator you know,Β sharing it with them. It may have more uses other than for animation, but I just make the tools, you have to explore them and find what else they could be useful for (:
Now you can also use it to sync gif animations to your music using this: fav.me/d711alb
How does it work?
With math MAGIC!
Here are the spells:
- BPM = FPS/FPB * 60
- FPB = FPS / (BPM / 60)
- FPS = (FPB * BPM) / 60
In theory it should be perfectly synced, but in practice, there is latency, lag, slow computers, songs with uneven tempo and many other things that may unsync the animation slowly, but it's a start!
Examples of animations synced with music: Most animations on my Music Gallery Folder .
I hope this helps, if you have questions let me know. All the feedback is welcome and will be considered for the next version ^^

Love love LOVE! Just one thing, can you make a calculator that when you enter the bpm it, it outputs possible whole number fpb with a corresponding fps? I hope that made sense, but it will be a real big life saver when you end up having to type in a bunch of random numbers for fps until you get a whole number forfpb.

Thanks.. I wanted to make some music on FL studio to animate to and thought working out how many FPS I would want from music roughly 140BPM.. I'll up it to 150BPM and it should work out at 10 FPS to sync up with a beat at 25FPS. It's kinda fustrating having small gaps due to mismatched audio and video so building a song with the framerate in mind should really help.. Hats off to you kind sir.Β

Thank you very much this is awesome!
This really worked for 'After Effects' and I got an 'Osu!' editing feel.
I simply animate in BPM then make it to 60 FPS to look smooth.

No cake for me?! ;_;
When I feel experienced enough to start with animations then I'll use this tool and it'll be awesome
btw: you must tell me your secret about how to make that awesome music.

It's the unsliceable cake, you have to have either all of it or none of it. But ok, you can have it, just never slice it!
You can use it even now with this other thingy I made: fav.me/d711alb There's a little demo on the bottom of the artist comments section ^^
To make music, first I would recommend starting learning to play a musical instrument you like until you feel comfortable with it, then you can play around with it, record random tracks and listen to them, mix them and make new melodies and explore, have fun!

So I'll have to eat the whole cake at once?
I'll try the demo c:
I'm playing piano since a year and a bit now, without a teacher. Additionally I just got a violin So I guess I'll try it with recording random things ^_^
Thanks for all this stuff!

Yup, the cake must be eaten in one bite
Ah that's awesome X3 It's good to have initiative to learn to play an instrument, I also have a violin (an electric one), I just don't have as much experience with it as I have with piano, but if you need help with anything let me know

I'll try it Β
I got inspired by Marasy8 on YouTube a couple of years ago to start playing piano. It's definitly worth checking out his channel. The violin is an instrument I always wanted to play but I stoped taking violin lessons around 6 or 7 years ago because I didn't liked the music my teacher wanted me to play (big mistake to quit x( ). Therefor I have to start from scratch again and I have no teacher.
Big thanks for your offer to help me! That's really awesome! If you're now even playing guitar and harp then you'd play all instruments I want to play and you'd probably be the all time most inspiring person to me (but I guess noone is playing exactly these four instruments Β ).
(More text than expected Β )

Ah yeah I saw a few of his videos a while ago, I found him because of his touhou piano interpretations,Β he is indeed a great pianistΒ
Even though having a teacher is one of the best ways to learn because you get feedback and they guide you through your learning, there are many many tutorials on youtube and on the internet, which you can check to remember how to play and learn much much more, it's almost unlimited knowledge (:
I will only lack the harp skill then (only because they are not so easy to find, if I had access to one I would learn to play it right away XP). I have a piano keyboard, electric violin, guitars (electric and acoustic), and recently got a pair of drumsticks to improve my wrist movement and rhythm, my drum kit is made of random objects from around the house XDD

Wow
Do you have a teacher for all instruments? I'm currently thinking about taking pianolessons because two teachers, which knew that I'm playing for around one year, offered me to search a piano teacher for me after a school-concert. They said I'm good but I missplayed over 9000 times XP
But I guess I should take violin lessons since I don't feel confortable enough to play at home where everyone can hear me. I actually stroked the strings just 3 or 4 times lightly.
A pair of drumsticks must be awesome, even if you play on random objects. Some classmates made amazing music just with things they find in a classroom. If they had some drumsticks they could give a concert

I don't have teachers for all of them at the same time XD Some years ago I studied guitar and violin with teachersΒ to learn the basics,Β like for six months each. Piano is my main instrument and the last time I took classes with a teacher was a year ago, and have been playing for 6-7 years. Any other instrument has been self-taught.
Haha if I had been there I probably would have agreed with them, it's not bad to make mistakes, it's more important the way you manage to get up and move forward CX Violin is a great instrument too, so whichever you pick to take classes will be a great choice And I understand you, I would play a lot more violin if no-one else could hear it but me when practicing haha.

I guess I'll probably let someone check my piano playing style and take violin classes then.
Thank you! That's incredibly motivating to me! Maybe, if I someday feel confident enough, I'll take a video from me playing something on the piano, so you can check whether you'd agree with them or not ^_^

You are welcome, good luck with your animations! (:
