This is the first image I made in what later turned into a series. I seem to have some trouble restraining myself from throwing every color of the spectrum into every image -- which is what inspired me to use narrower palettes in the other images.

I really like this. The color blending. The turbulence. The seeming rifts and valleys. Could you give us a little explanation of how you use the tool(s) that made this?

The image is made entirely in Ultra Fractal 5. Lots of layers, lots of masking to control where the textures and colors go so that each area of the structure appears to be different. But the turbulence, and the illusion of rifts and valleys all come from the Perlin Noise structure of the fractal algorithm. 


The blending of color is mostly achieved with transparency, and soft-edged masks.
