Description
I finally got some time off of work, so what better time to start some story than now? I mean it's only been like, a year since I decided to really get into harpg...------------------------
Life in the quiet foothills of Mt. Airy had been quite for most of the summer. The occasional art festival or local high school football game kept the surrounding county from falling into the depths of irrelevant obscurity. But now, as nature began preparing for the dormant winter ahead and local farms began their fall harvest, the staff, students and even horses of Black Rock Stables prepared for a rather lively winter season.
Erica Valentina Leon, or Eri as she preferred, sat atop her mare, watching over the quiet BRS grounds from the Mt. Airy trail head. The painted Spanish Barb breathed calmly, perfectly happy to enjoy the peace and quiet. "Enjoy it now Sol, we've got a nice long winter ahead of us." Eri sighed. Down below on the stable grounds, the other trainers were leading their horses out of the main stable. Eri had called on them for a brief after lunch meeting, figuring holding it on a trail ride would be preferable to sitting in a cramped circle in her office. She waved as they made their way towards the start of the main trail to meet up with her.
"Early as ever, Eri. Did you even eat?" Octavian called out to her as he brought Malware to a halt. The Marwari impatiently stomped the ground, having believed she was out for more than a brisk walk. Eri smiled pleasantly at the other trainer before picking up her reins and starting up the trail. "Figured I should set the example. And I like to eat my lunch in peace rather than gabbing away between bites like you and Roderickk do." She clicked her mare forward and took the lead, much to Malware's disdain. "It's called conversation, not gabbing." Roderickk chimed in from behind Octavian. "Speaking of conversation, what's the meeting for, Eri?" The younger of the Leon sisters called out from the very back of the line.
"I like hanging out with you guys. And I'd just like to know if you're all ready to juggle some horses and students around. Mom's got some ideas for the stables and I have shows planned and I'd rather we not fall behind on the homefront." Eri weaved her mare down the trail. "And I like keeping all of you out of my office." She shrugged.
"Fall behind? Since when have you know any of us to fall behind in anything?" Roderickk leaned back in his saddle and let his feet hang down from his stirrups.
"Since just now." Eri grinned, pushing Sol into a canter and breezing ahead.
Malware tossed her head, jumping forward as her competitive spirit flared up. Tavi barely managed to hold her back before letting her ease up into a gallop. Finally, something more fun than this borefest of a trail ride! Malware snorted as she quickly gained on Sol.
"Setting an example?" Reina laughed, kicking Chance into a a gallop. "I think not." Roderickk grinned as he collected himself to followed suit, his paint mare Azul more than happy to join in the race. A chance to race the forever energetic Malware and the experienced Sol? Yes please. Could either Azul or Chance win? Not unless Malware just dropped dead in the middle of the trail. But they could dream.
The four thundered down the trail struggling to keep up with Sol and Malware. It wasn't until Eri led her mare off the trail and into the trees that those behind her even had a chance to actually catch up. They sped by trees and undergrowth before bursting out into a grassy clearing and coming to a halt in its center. Eri turned in her seat to see Malware appear out of the colorful mosaic of leaves and slow to a walk, seeing her rival had already reached an improvised finish line. Behind them came the other two trainers at a more leisurely pace. "we should hold more meetings like this. Good for the horses, good for your office." Tavi smiled, pulling his mare alongside Sol and Eri. "Put it in the suggestion box and we'll see." Eri chuckled, patting Sol's neck. "Will do. Just as soon as I get back to the barn... before the rest of you." Tavi winked and turned Malware back towards the trail, kicking up grass and dirt as they went. Eri rolled her eyes and beckoned the others to follow. Unfair advantage much? Sol shook her head. Like you're one to talk, Sol... Chance sighed pulling forward to keep up with the spotted mare.
