  “You can’t stay in the country for more than a couple months can you?”
    “I have no idea what you’re talking about.” Eri had her phone shouldered to her ear while she stepped up onto the step-stool beside Hielo and set to work braiding his mane, the young stallion preoccupied with his morning hay.
    “Very cute Eri.” Eri could feel Roderick’s irritation through the phone. “When are you coming back? Your grandmother and I can barely keep up with substituting for your lessons and I’m not about to add your horses onto my exercise load.”
    “Wow, we really fall apart when one trainer leaves.” A rubber band snapped when she tried tying a braid. “I’ll be back by next week. I want Hielo to be well rested enough to travel again.”
    “We’ll be lucky if we’re still standing by then. Eri, I’m serious, you can’t make this a habit. Leaving on some trip for a previously undisclosed amount of time and leaving all of your work to whoever’s left back home? You do the work of ten trainers and we can’t keep up when you’re gone.” Roderick sighed, doing his best to keep the stress at bay.
    “There’s easier ways to tell me you miss me,” Eri could feel that previous irritation increase several degrees. “I promise this won’t be a habit. I just felt this show was right up Hielo’s alley and it’d be a shame to miss it.” She paused, trying to discern whether or not Roderick was satisfied with her response. Nothing but empty air.
    “Alright and when I have some down time I’ll call grandma and see what we can do about hiring some more staff.”
    “Perfect! Good luck with Hielo, see you next week, miss you!”
Roderick ended the call and left Eri with her trip slightly dampened by administrative work, the very thing she wanted a break from.
