Description
Things were starting to get tough at the Outlaw Trail.
Heather had heard of the first couple of people resigning from the event, because it had gotten too much onto them or their horses or both.
Heather was glad to see Maddie and Johnny still doing great, as well as the young mare, Rita, whom she had caught during one of the assigments pretty much on coincidence, was naturally doing great, afterall she had been born in the wild here.

In the morning Heather and Johnny were awoken by hectic noises outside. Getting up and out of her tent, she asked what had happened and soon was informed that young Lieutenant Kent had been shot badly and just come back alive thanks to his horse taking a turn and running back for the camp!
He was tended to now, but things looked serious.
"What a way to start a new day.", Heather thought to herself.
She wondered what their next assigment now would be. Hunting down the Outlaws? Finding the man who shot Kent?
Oh, she definitely would like some more good ol' gun-fighting, for that matter.

However, their next assiment did not have anything to do with shooting, but instead they were told to find and return some stray cattle, that had been stolen and got scattered.
Well, it was no gun-fighting, but it was nearly as good! Heather already had greatly enjoyed catching those circus horses, yet cattle was what Maddie and Johnny were actually trained for. That promised to become a lot of fun!

Leaving Rita at the camp again, ignoring the mare's loud neighs of protest when they left, Heather, Maddie and Johnny set out to find those cows. It didn't take them all too long and as Heather had hoped, the cows turned out to be of the smart and hefty kind, who knew how to escape a horse and rider again and again.
Heather was just about to chase a cow back into the small bunch of cattle she already had herded together, when a happy neigh caught both her and Maddie's attention.

"Holy Sh . . . that can't be?", she mumbled, while spinning Maddie around to not lose that cow again, Johnny was still busy pressing back in line.
From over the plain the familiar vvid paint pattern of Rita came galopping, neighing happiely when she spotted them, a gnawed-threw rope dangling from her halter and if that wasn't enough, the mare was chasing a cow infront of her, giving her a hearty nip in the but, when she was about to slow down.
"Goddamn this girl!", Heather couldn't help, but laugh, when Rita came to galopp beside her, while they got both cows back to the herd to drive them ahead.

On the one hand Heather was a little mad at Rita, for gnawing through the rope and running off, on the other she was far too proud to find the wild mare apparently having chosen them already as her new herd and instead of running off, coming to help. The fact, that she was clever enough to get, that they were trying to chase cows and actually going to find one herself to bring and help, well, that was just beyong impressive to Heather.
"I do believe you're going to become one heck of a cowgirl one day, Rita.", she told the mare, as they slowed down to a trot.
Rita just snorting in a delighted way, obviously just glad to be with her 'herd' again. Driving cattle, whyever they did it, well, it least was fun.

I realized, I need to draw more cattle. The cows kinda look like the lovechildren of horses and dogs to me.
