Description
The DiggersThe diggers are a well armed fanatical cult of puritan Christians, settlers of the Heath that believe they are living in the end times with the war being seen as the rapture that took the faithful to heaven and left the sinners to face hell on earth.
They believe that mankind, once sinful idolaters must redeem themselves so that they may be part of god's kingdom once the Messiah rises again.
They are extremely bigoted and xenophobic, believing that the other neo-feudalists with opposing beliefs are in fact bidders of the anti Christ.
Evildoers who will be slain once the holy son returns.
They are led by a man who goes by the title of lord protector, and rules a great number of settlements with and entourage of 11 men.
They call themselves the 12 apostles of the endtimes, believing that they, the most pious Christians will be the generals of the holy army the son of God will command.
Each apostle commands a holy regiment of professional soldiers who are responsible for offensive military campaigns, called crusades by the diggers.
1st holy regiment of foot
The protectors first.
The protectors first are the most elite and formidable infantrymen the diggers have to offer.
Being the lord protectors chosen guard, they are provided with the best equipment the wasteland has to offer.
Most of them carry a pre war Self Loading rifle as opposed to the much more common Enfield rifle.
They stand out amongst other regiments for they cover their faces with gas masks and balaclavas and wear pre war camouflage army fatigues.
They do not utter a word and only communicate with each other through hand signals, with all members having taken a vow of silence in honour of the lord.
These elite troops are identified by their black flag carrying the white magladine cross which is the symbol of the order.
They are highly disciplined, with many of them seeing years of combat during the first Burrough war and the grand crusade, making them highly capable veterans who are fearless in battle.
They answer only to the lord protector and dare not act on orders given by anyone else.
Their prestige is so valiant that those of other regiments think they are beyond human, rather a legion of angels sent by god to assist man.
Since the lord protectors retreat into solitude after the second Burrough war the protectors first have been inactive, preferring to stand on guard at their master's fort on imperial island, so that the valiant defender of the faith may not come to harm during his meditations.
The first regiment of foot has the oldest origin, with many of the high ranking Sargents knowing the lord protector in his youth, marching with him during the exodus and fighting alongside him in his first great victories.
Currently the regiment numbers at only 20 men making it the smallest of regiments. In previous years during the orders prime, the regiment would number at around 100 like most other regiments but with heavy losses over the many years of combat and the regiment refusing to take in new recruits, the numbers have been whittled down and continue to be whittled down as its members get older.
