Description This is for the Wacom "Bring Your Vision to Life" Good vs. Evil contest.
I felt like I needed to submit something since the contest had such an open theme.

Interpretation:
--
In color theory, there is deep darkness and there is bright light, but when brought in the presence of all the midtones, they seem so stark and polar that all of the important middle values that define depth are overwhelmed and lost in the contrast. This painting parallels the aforementioned concept with people as a whole- I find that the concept of good and evil drives the majority of people's lives, and the need to categorize acts, people, and other things into categories is possibly the root to a greater evil- discrimination.
Given this, consider how as paint comes out of a tube - it looks clean and immaculate - the inherent "good" in our society. But as it mixes with the occasional negativity (or "evil") in life, it slowly loses purity and becomes more identifiable as a shade of gray. All people have various shades and tints of gray within (not to mention splatters of black and white) but sometimes the individual's personality can get lost behind the overwhelming radical nature of a splotch of black, or "evil". If there is even a single blot on a person's reputation, all the beautiful things they have accomplished in life may not be realized due to the contrast between these areas and the human need to focus on the negative. I feel like the ability to overcome this predisposition can figuratively break down a large portion of the barriers people put up out of ignorance.
My message is to search into a person- look past the black splotch to the overwhelmingly white background.
Forgive, and don't discriminate.

This is done in rollerball pen, white acrylic, and india ink. I love how acrylic textures up when you rub over it with a paper towel! Then india ink gets caught up in the pores and it looks fantastic...

This is a lovely concept...but it doesnt have to be black... sometimes the same shade of grey blot can appear very dark against one kind of background and quite light against another...

Ahhhh, wow, this is so... un-Ian! I mean, I can tell it's yours when I look at it, but it's so different. The no-lines thing (well, for the most part, since there are SOME), I would suppose. You've done a fantastic job with it, I gotta say. I am impressed. :3

I really like the idea behind it, it's much deeper than what most people went for. Mine was the kinda mankind vs. nature thing (I tried being not cliche, but eh, it's the strongest idea to me), so I totally dig what you've chosen to do here.

And yes sir, that texture is fantastic!

Hee, thanks! I really don't think it looks that different, personally... but I did paint it, so... bias? *shrug*

Haha, psh. It's so lame, really...
Oooh, I actually didn't pick up on your theme, but it's really ingenious! I love how it's portrayed too...

Hey, still interested in the NIN concert?
They're touring with Jane's Addiction, Street Sweeper, and
It's on June 12th at Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Charlotte at 7PM.
If you want in, get $25 to me sometime soon. You have to buy tickets in sets of four... and so far it's me, Ashley, Lauren, and you. I'll see if we can all carpool down there together.
Lemme know what you think.

Yep, bias.

Dude, it's not lame at all! And I'm actually maybe glad you didn't pick up on it, except not? Now I feel the need to explain so people aren't sittin' there with their fingers up their butts. x:

That was a kinda random place to ask that question, haha. Yeah, I'm still interested. Dunno when I'll see you, but I'll pay you then. And, erm, how long does it take to drive to Charlotte? For job-related purposes (may just ask for the day off, whatever).

Haha, well yeah, it's subtle, but totally makes sense.

Awesome! Since Jingyi gets back soon, I think we should all hang out again... maybe tie-dye? Lolololol. XD; Don't have any idea when that'll be, really. But yeah. I'll probably see you before then.
Umm, I think it takes 2 hours ish? Faster if you drive, lol...

We will most definately hang out soon, in that case. And tye-dye. I suppose. I still need to buy underwear for that. x'D

And okay, I figured as much. I am ready for this shit. >8O

There was this awesome pair of underwear at Animazement with tentacles painted all over it. It was fantastic.

This mac is being a bitch to me so I can't fullview this... *tries to refresh one more time* AH! Here goes!
Starting my comment :>

I love all the details on the tube, and how you managed to put perspective here, it really looks like it's laying on a table!
But then again, as I look at the white paint coming out of it, it's gone again. I also love the free feeling of the ink, running down, being splattered and... oj oj.
Great effect on the head too!

That's a lovely picture, and your comment on it was very accurate and smart (: I try to keep such things in mind myself when I meet new people or... when something happens, they do something. I try to think back at all the nice things they did, and... all of a sudden that black splotch is smaller than it first seemed.
But then again, you shouldn't let yourself be tricked or used, some have more black than white splotches, if not to everyone, then to you. That's quite easy to notice, though :>

Good luck in the contest! (and sorry for the long-ass comment... xD)

Hehe, thanks! ^-^
I never keep my perspective consistent, for some reason! I think it's because I get bored with it after a while. That, and I kinda like warped perspectives!

Ah, thanks. I'm glad you found it at least marginally insightful. XD;
It's cheesy as crap, but it's what the pic is about.

Thanks for the well-wishing!
I doubt I'll win anything or even get noticed, but I wanted to enter anyway because of the contest's scope.

No no, that's just interesting! Especially in pictures like this (:

Maybe a little bit ;> But even so, it applies to everyday life and it... just is like that xD

You're welcome! But they'll notice you for sure! You're at least participating ;>
