Description Watercolor on canvas.

Well i'm moving right along with my little watercolor experiment here and was pretty pleased with it so far until this piece was damaged after it showed last weekend. So i'm a little bummed (okay, that's a big understatement). But at least i got a decent picture of it beforehand. *sigh*

I like the bg it fits in quite nicely, did you draw it before or after drawing her? I like the over all shape of her body, though the hand seems odd to me, it's more cartoon-ish than the rest of the picture, or something. What did you use for the outlines?

for watercolour, this definately rocks. got a sort of comicy feel to it, I love the tattoos, especially the bird, and great angle/foreshortening here. it's extrememly nice, the piece pulls together well, and it looks awesome to boot.

Great picture. Sorry to hear it was damaged. It looks like you put alot of effort into this. Or you're really good with watercolors.. ^^ Well no matter what you're good with watercolors. Great job on the shading. Awesome details too.
Just curious, but what kind of watercolors do you use?

inkoffdotnet In reply to mewzy-chan [2004-07-15 13:53:01 +0000 UTC]

thanks! i'm not sure what brand they are, i bought a set of maybe 12 tube colors. i'm really really really big on mixing my own colors so i don't usually buy anything but primaries, which saves a lot of money on premixed colors that barely get used...

thanks! i think i'm going to switch to mounted paper for the watercolors instead of canvas, because the treatment on the canvas needed for it to absorb the paint correctly repels layering. but glad you like this!

Damaged? DAMAGED? Ah the horror... was the responsible for this sacriledge "damaged" too? Someone needs to pay the damage costs Altough.. yeah, it's a total shame when art gets damaged... I suppose that's why one should try to capture it on digital to at least preserve a shadow of it's original glory.

I must say your water-canvas skills are progressing very nicely. They already look good enough to place many an artist to shame The tattooing work looks neat, lots of details beyond what the mere flesh needs. Altough the shape of her wrist bugs me a little, isn't realistic enough for my tastes (ya, I know the overall image isn't really attempting realism either, but I like the shape of everything else...).

Her hair is beautifully colored too... altough I find it a bit unusual to see hair that has shades of blue, light-blue and Gray. I am wondering why gray rather than a darker blue here... maybe it's some hint that the hair was originally black. Hmm... well, time to start thinking about it (But one has to admit that it does looks good on her...)

well, my error was not drafting a contractual lending agreement, but the person responsible for the damages (to this and to "fuck texas part II") has offered to buy them) but i dunno, i'd hate to see them leave me only to go live with someone who doesn't care about them and would only damage them more. *sigh* i'll figure it out.

anyhow, yes the grey hair is "black". i hated to lose the lines so i did the blacks light. i didn't really realize that light black meant grey hair until you mentioned it. duh! (as i slap my own forehead).

sorry about the wrist but i'm glad you still like the piece.

Well in a sense it's good that the one responsible offered up to pay for the damages.
Altough when I said "whoever is responsible should pay for the damages", I was thinking alongside the lines of a payment method that would involve a baseball bat and lots of blood

Well, black is the color at which every color converges when totally dark... I prefer thinking of colors the way of Hue/Saturation/Value, from black to white it's a pure scale of graytones if there's no saturation, an in a way, a "light black" is a dark "any color", it all depends on the hue you apply it to. In this case I would had expected dark blue (this also explains why I generally don't paint stuff in white nor black, because in the pure sense of the word, the shades and highlights would be stuck at "gray", and that looks a little pale. I'd rather use light-cyan or dark-purple for example, instead of saying something is "white" or "black"... but then again, I've ranted too much on how I play with colors already ).
