Aaaaaaaaaaaah, you speak of Battle Royale, yes? Heard of it, never seen it or read the book!

I'm not a huge fan, but I couldn't resist the opportunity to play with some of my buddies over there. And I made some new friends, which has been lovely!

Not just that theres a lot of 'Battle Royal' esque stories Hunger games is hardly the first and yet everyone going on about how ground breaking and 'awesome' it is when in reality it's a bunch of kids killing each other for entertainment *wiggles* So I have a little problem with that *shakes head* Eh I had simmiler issues with twilight, people say I Need to read it I have still don't like it lulz HG or T both are equally bad in my opinion, the only saving grace is they're easy to read I think that's why they're popular it's easy to read them some books no matter how much you love the premise are just so hard to read.

It's good you've made friends though as long as your enjoying yourself that's the important thing right? ^^ Mostly I just love that she has light blue hair cause that's my signature characters hair color *grin*

"when in reality it's a bunch of kids killing each other for entertainment"
wat

Have you even read the books? Dw I'm not being abrasive, I'm not even the biggest fan of the Hunger Games, but it is a LOT more than "a bunch of kids killing each other for entertainment". I may have a lot of nitpicks for the trilogy, but one of the things I appreciate about it most are the themes- so it's a little annoying to see someone so blatantly disregard it. Also, the Hunger Games and Twilight are both equally bad? ... what even.

Anyway, I love your character, she's very well designed and all the effort you put in really shows.

Yes I have and if you take away all the political garbage and the post apocalyptic new world order setting it's a bunch of kids being forced to slaughter each other for others entertainment and I take issue with that

and yes I stand by the opinion that Both twilight and hunger games are equally bad, Bad for different reasons maybe but still bad.

But that's the point of the entire series; it's horrific, it shouldn't be happening and it's extremely chilling to imagine that people could even get to the point where they force children kill each other. It's a direct satire of 'political garbage' that goes on in our world today, why would you take that away when it is the ~point of the series? This series really teaches people- especially the more privileged in our society- to think about the uncomfortable issue of the many people living in poverty throughout the world and how they have to live every day. The actual games themselves aren't even the biggest issue, another thing that is just as scary to these people is the constant fear of illness and starvation. The reader is forced to experience this sad fact of many people's lives, even if it is dressed up at first look as a book simply about 'killing kids for entertainment'. It discusses a totalitarian government in a crumbling world and the impact it has on a group of oppressed people. The Hunger Games is a terrifying show of power from the government who have complete control over these peoples lives, turning humans into pawns for their sick games to display their power and crush hope in order to keep rebellion from overthrowing them. The book is about how these people are resisting this power that the Capitol represents, proving that despite the horrific conditions they are unfortunately surrounded by, they are real living humans, not just game pieces.

It's also a bit of a satire towards those disgusting reality TV shows (eg. Big Brother, Jersey Shore, The Biggest Loser, The Bachelor ect.), a scary, exaggerated version of these shows, taking their core elements and highlighting the worst parts of them- except the contestants in the Hunger Games are arguably more sympathetic.

The book has many flaws, especially in the second and third book, but it is a hell of a lot more than 'kids killing each other for entertainment'. That is a part of the ~plot, not one of the many themes or underlying messages of the books. Also, to say it is as bad as Twilight. I still can't get over that. What even.

The Hunger Games is about severe starvation, poverty, oppression, morality, and the damaging effects of war. Twilight is about how important it is to have a boyfriend. I'm sorry, but I don't think it's fair at all to compare these two books (and I use the term 'book' lightly for Twilight). Bella is an absolute unlikable wreck of a character, is selfish, annoying, miserable, and just plain stupid. Katniss is well developed, believable, compassionate, selfless, consistent, and strong. Do you know how rare it is to have strong female leads? Especially in YA? ~Likable strong female leads? I'm sorry, but to say this book even comes close to something that has Bella making pancakes one sentence, then making cereal the next- is a little hard for me to take seriously. I even understand if you say the Hunger Games is bad (as long as you have logical reasons to back it up ), but ~equally as bad as Twilight? This puzzles me. What on earth makes it equally as bad as Twilight?

Lol sorry, end of rant XD

Ok not going to lie I didn't read that whole thing and I don't really intend to glancing over it clearly you read a lot more into that story then needed to be, it is fundamentally a battle royal with politics that's all it's got kids killing each other regardless of the 'underlying' messages which where about as subtle as a brick to the head anyway, there awful books and honestly no I didn't find the female lead likable at all, strong maybe but not likeable. She's a cookie cu out of every other 'strong female' character out there, the only reasons he's considered likable right now is because bella was her predecessor and I agree with you even a freaking puppy would be a strong believable character after that creature.

And again I say they are equally as bad but also, for different reasons, while twilight was bad for it's ridiculously glorified abusive relationship and the Bella creature, Hunger games is bad by it's whole premise and in how completely unoriginal it is, in how people dig into it's very shallow, 'morals' and supposedly compassionate female lead. While I will agree her mental anguish is very believable and being a person who suffers PTSD it is written fairly well and Her coaping mechanisms are believable that's about the extent of anything relatable I got from her.

and then in the end very little change for all that story and the third book had some plot holes and didn't really finish a lot of things it felt like it just kind of tapered off there was no clear end, and the whole reason Katniss get's involved anyway is ruined in i think the third book because of the bomb (that's all I'mma say because much as I hate the stupid book i won't spoil it for people who like it and don't know)

The frank fact is I am not a fan I find the story and idea deplorable, I can't understand people who do like it, just like I can't understand people who like twilight, then again I'm sure there are people who feel that way about people like me who like anime and such.

I have nothing against you for liking it, I just don't understand why you do.

You didn't really explain ~why it's bad though, or more specifically, why it's shallow/contrived, so I can't really take you seriously if you just say that and leave it like that. Just saying Katniss is unlikable doesn't make sense, is there some example of what made her unlikable? The Hunger Games isn't about subtlety, it's a direct take on certain morals issues and if you read what I put properly then maybe you'd understand a little more. :/

I'd genuinely like to hear what makes Katniss such an unlikable character though, I'm interested in why you've come to that conclusion, because I've always viewed her as a very compassionate and original character, but I could be wrong. *shrug* She's never seemed like a copy of the typical strong female to me, she doesn't just go around waving around an arrow shouting about how she doesn't need men- in fact she's sort of an atypical protagonist- the way she's so detached and not very charismatic. She's not strong to prove a point, she's strong because she ~has to be and that's the sort of life she's gotten used to, so to me that sets her apart from typical female protagonists.

I don't agree at all that it's simply Battle Royale with politics- that argument just doesn't work. There are some similarities of course, but the elements are different. You think I'm reading too much into it, but I don't think you're reading into it at all. It's not fair to say that the Hunger Games is copying BR (even if the latter is far more superior), the ideas of the HG and BR has been done before these books (Gladiator Games, Lord of the Flies, The Long Walk etc.) Hell, these stories were going around in Ancient Greece, many ~many years ago; calling the HG 'unoriginal' for having the same basic plot point is highly uncalled for. The writing style is different, the location is different, the characters are different, and what happens later on in the books is entirely different from BR. I think Battle Royale handles the issues better and more realistically, and I feel like what's good about BR is different to what's good about the 1st HG.

Now I don't know about you, but I'd personally take shallow morals and 'unoriginal' plots over glorified abusive relationships any day. I don't see how the Hunger Games could possibly be equally as bad considering that.

I agree with you on the third book- like I said, I think the books are flawed, especially the 2nd and 3rd- I don't think it's perfect, and the last one disappointed me. The ending really frustrated me because there was no clear end, and if it was intended to be unclear then it wasn't executed very well at all. I'm completely with you there- but still- as bad as Twilight? C'mon.

I have nothing against you for disliking it- still a little miffed with comparing it to the glorification of abusive relationships- but I'd just like to understand why, because you've listed reasons quite vaguely and that just leaves me sitting here going 'but why?'. Hopefully you'll have read the whole thing this time.

@hinasakukimi, i totally agree with you. i think that katniss is a very strong female lead compared to bella, who is weak and stupid.the hunger games is about much more than kids being forced to kill each other.@shiory, have you even read any of the books?! or even seen the film? because if you haven't you're being awfully prejudice. the roots of the story lie much deeper than you think, and there is a lot more to it than kids slaughtering each other. And i dont think anybody can just compare the hunger games and twilight like you did. they have nothing in common! twilight is about a girl who falls in love with a vampire, and the hunger games is about a fallen country, of which the people have to send their very own children to fight each other to the death just for the entertainment of the upper class citizens. it teaches you about poverty, and how people live through the most difficult situations. so, overall, i think you should rethink all this.
