Description
Tentatively done with this for now... it's not a great stitch, but I can do a better scan when I get my rig back up again. Until then, I gotta make do with a li'l bitty scanner, and this was worked up a little large.14x17, pencil on bristol, about 4-6 hours to completion. You can see rough and partial stages in my Scraps, here -> [link] and over here -> [link] and read up on the story behind this picture if, you know, you're into that sort of thing. Whatever, I'm not here to judge.
Hey barkeep, hit me!!

I don't generally mind people coloring my work, so long as they're honest about crediting. I like to get a Note when it gets posted, too, just to check it out.
About the only stuff that's off-limits is my work-work, the stuff I've done for clients. But this is mine, so have fun with it.

I can't help but think that boobies that large would be a liability. Screwing around with balance, and such.
So, how did that kit get onto the knife handle?

Yeah, I just caught that recently (the knife pommel outsizing the toolkit's ring).

hummm... another question. Do you sketch the character your going to draw out before hand so you can put in all the little details, or do you add detail as you go allong?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Inkthinker In reply to teapot-phx [2006-01-05 23:30:02 +0000 UTC]
Nope, everything gets sketched out first in red pencil, very roughly. Check the Comments for links to the rough and WIP versions in my Scraps, and you can find out more on the process.
But yeah, I rough out everything first, because it's important to catch mistakes in proportion and composition and so forth early on. Doing thumbnails is even better, since you can plan things out early and quick, but there should always at least be a rough sketch first.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Inkthinker In reply to loathechuchu [2006-01-05 23:12:02 +0000 UTC]
I wasn't going to go quite that far... if I'm gonna do a thong shot, I'm probably going to place the scene at the beach or in the bedroom.
You know, I only just realised that the loop on the hanging toolkit is smaller than the pommel on the knife that she's jammed into the gears there... so you're right, there's no way it would have gotten on there unless the pommel of that knife comes off. I might try to fix it when I can...

B,
Do you have a background in fashion or textile design or something?
Your character's attire is always something that is very well designed, but always practical and utilitarian. Both stylish and substantial.
Or do you do it because it just make sense?
k.

Inkthinker In reply to wolfprime [2006-01-05 23:49:20 +0000 UTC]
Form follows function, generally speaking... that's about it. Most everything else is either made up or taken from real-world analogues, and I'm often finding out from people who know better what works and what doesn't.
Past that, I think I'm just driven to make costumes that are at least a little believable, because I spent way too much time as a kid reading spandex books where the costumes were all painted on, and I never really like that.

Gershom In reply to Inkthinker [2006-02-25 19:22:15 +0000 UTC]
Since your discussing the topic of realistic clothing, I figured I'd point something out. I'm not against the fact that her toes are uncovered by the shoes. But the way that they stick out over the edge of the sole would make them bad shoes. Wearing a shoe like that is asking for trouble, especially for an adventurer. They would know better. Now I could understand if she used her toes to hold things sometimes, maybe. That still seems far-fetched though.
Otherwise, very nicely done picture. I wish I could watch you through the entire process of making it to learn more about your techniques and tricks. I appreciated the links to the sketches.

Inkthinker In reply to Gershom [2006-02-25 23:25:59 +0000 UTC]
Yep, you're right on that... your toes would scrape the ground every time you lift your foot during a walk or run.
In this case it was just a visual cheat, but it does sacrifice realism of design.

Well, if I make changes I'll probably replace this version. If there was another stage it'd be either inks or colors, and that'd probably warrant a new submission.

By the gods, how you inspire me, man.
Simple as that. You're one of my biggest inspirations. The complexity of both the costumes and characters are through the roof.
I'll see if I can test out Painter by slapping some colors on this. Hopefully, doing you a little justice in the process.

These? Nope, no publisher, just for my own satisfaction. Right now the only RPG publisher I've been working for is Kenzer & Co.
There should be a cover I did coming from those guys sometime soon...
