Description
Since I've been having problems with proportions and body structure of ponies ever since I started drawing them, I decided it'd be a nice idea to take a break from painting and do something similar to the study of figure in motion (gesture drawing would be a more appropriate term, perhaps). And what is the most interesting and enjoyable way to do that? Animating!Of course, before moving on to some fancy stuff, I needed to refresh the little I know about the craft. So I made this little animation. It's simple, it has tons of mistakes, I spent a whole week on it... and I enjoyed that time enormously!
OK, now I'll go and find some good animation books... Or justΒ make myself a cup of delicious and refreshing tea. The latter, somehow, sounds more appealing at the moment.

This is so adorable! Β The style (especially the hooves) really make me think of Lilo dancing to Elvis.

Did you use Paint Tool SAI? I use that to animate, is that weird?

No, I used a bit more sophisticated software here, though if you find SAI comfortable and suiting your creative workflow, then it's a great choice!
By the way, I didn't see any animations in your gallery β are you planning on submitting any soon?

Well, when I make them they aren't GIF files... It's a video. You see, I take a picture of each frame then go in my video editor, place every picture, make the pictures/frames Β stay for a little bit of time/ speeding it up. After, I process it for my computer, and it makes a video file of my animation.

Oh. That's quite a bit of a hassle, I suppose. I can imagine how hard it must be to plan timing this way.
Personally, I'd recommend you to use software that is designed for animation, not drawing. For example, check outΒ Pencil2DΒ β the program is free, and it has all the features needed to animate β a timeline, onion skin and layers. A lot of professionals use vector-based Adobe Flash, so you might want to try it as well.
