This painting reminds me of those old folk tales in which someone gets murdered and some sort of musical instrument is made of the bones. Every time someone will play it the bone(s) will start singing a song, in which is told how the person died.

Yes, this is one of my most favourite symbol from the tales, the way dead can speak and thruth can be revealed. I guess it is from very ancient times and also reminds me of buddhism, Chod.
