Thanks!
It was an exhibit at the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco. The ants were in a display that highlighted their interesting food storage.

I can't take credit for the light, that was done by the curators at the Academy of Science. Thanks for the comment!

Great shot, the idea, the composition, lighting and macro all work wonderfully, I've entered the comp but I know my limitations. I think you have a winner with this one.

Thanks, I'm hoping this one will do well. Makes up for all the other shots that go unnoticed. Anyhow, I'm glad you like it

Well, they look cool. It's interesting to see what's going on in the nest, cause we can't normally see inside it.

Definately. That's the main reason I love the Academy of Sciences, they find ways to show you windows into whole worlds you never knew existed or have no way of getting to.

This is sort of terrifying... to know such a universe exists beneath our feet. This immediately reminded me of an old show about this little Australian girl named Dot who ventured into an ant hill. But looking at it more, it's just amazing at how coordinated these little bugs are. I wonder if their system is anywhere near as flawed as ours. Anyway... great piece. Thanks for making me think.

Their coordination is pretty amazing, especially when you separate one from the colony, and watch how lost it is alone, but once back with the others, it knows exactly what to do and where to go.
Thanks for the comment!

strange. It reminds me a lot of Matrix.
Did you take it at a zoo or something?

It does have that sort of otherworldly darkness like the "real world" in the Matrix...
It was taken at the California Academy of Sciences ant exhibit. They are living, actual ants.
