Description
Derp. I kinda turned one of my WIPs into a viewable tutorial of sorts, since I noticed this particular scan shows pretty much all my basic steps.I have the numbers and descriptions below. Simply refer to the picture and correlating numbers above for a visual.
***********
1: Ah, the sketch. This is a more formed sketch, with details added that will provide a guide that is more or less accurate when I begin inking.
2: Inking. I inked this particular picture with a Copic multiliner, size .05. The lines are rather thin, which is good for when you plan on doing details in fur and other textures. I recommend thicker lines when doing things a bit more cartoony in nature, it gives a more quirky effect.
Tip: If you can't afford professional inking tools, try to avoid using regular pens with gel ink. I know from experience that they smear easily, even after drying when you try to erase them. Go to K-Mart and get yourself a pack of black Flair marker pens, like the ones here: [link]
3: Base Color. I take the base color, or rather the lightest color you will use for highlights and to layer upon. In this case, I used Prismacolor's Putty Beige. It's just an overall quick laydown of color. Juvenile looking, but fairly even-toned. It's best to use it fairly lightly at this point.
4: I take the same base color and layer it with more pressure. The color will appear darker and more saturated, but not glaringly so, and it makes a good guide for future shading. This is why I use it to map out where my fur will go.
5: Shading. I take a darker color, usually much darker but applied lightly, to add shading and depth. For this I used Dark Umber. You don't need to be really specific here. Avoid making stokes too solid; you're shading with gradients, not cell shading.
6: Adding shadows. This is darker shading, done in the same manner as the above step but with a darker color and more sparingly. The color used here is Warm Grey 70%.
Tip: Don't be afraid to mix color groups, like greys with browns, or even using colors like blue to shade. The same goes with layering that first color layer with your first shading. Is your base color a brown? Use black or a dark grey, applied lightly, to shade. It gives it a more dramatic effect and prevents the colors from blending together to the point where you don't notice the care taken into the shading.
**********
So yeah, there you go. I apologize for this really odd form of a tutorial. I don't have a lot of time on my hands, and it was a spur of the moment thing. Enjoy!

OH MA GAWSH COOLNESS WAS HERE.
Also, there's a wip of the ref. sheet of my fursona, but i changed a lot the size and with that change, all the anatomy.
When i do traditional drawings, i do the messy way: i don't even lineart

Thanks!
I took a look. She looks awesome so far.
It's easier for me to do lineart than to do pieces without it.

Since i work mostly like in traditional art, i usually just delete the sketchy and messy line and redraw it with some faber castell pencil i don't think that can be properly called "lineart"
Thanks too! I can't believe someone as you is commenting on my drawings
I want to do for the contest Shinta looking at the mirror and seeing you, and an alternate version where you see yourself but you still see yourself, with a sad face. I read that you would like to be like Shinta, so i think it fits and it also reminds me of the stamp "my fursona is me, i am not my fursona".
Do you think that's okay?
