Description
"And shun the Frumious Bandersnatch!"A sketch of my perception of the Frumious Bandersnatch. I'm not completely happy with it, so I may do some others.
As there's no official illustration and very little description of the Bandersnatch, as opposed the Jabberwock ([link] ), I was free to go wild with the design, as long as I made it look like it could run fast ("You might as well try to catch a bandersnatch!"), and include an extendible neck ("But the Bandersnatch merely extended its neck") and snapping, frumious jaws ("... while those frumious jaws ... Went savagely snapping around-").
It has deer-like legs because the name sounds a bit like "bound", which is what deer do, I think. Moreover, deer can move very swiftly. I added a typewriter, as I felt it should make a very odd noise, and what is odder for an animal than typewriter noises? It also attacks a banker, so there may be some philosophical/psychological/social allusion here; I don't know. It has a shuttlecock tail for no real reason other than I thought it looked good. I checked to see if Badminton had been invented in Carroll's lifetime, and it apparently began the year before he wrote the Hunting of the Snark. But it would have been fine anyway, as long as it was within his lifetime. Although impossible to see, the text on the paper sticking out from the typewriter is the last verse of the Hunting of the Snark.
This was partly drawn for , as she asked what I thought the Bandersnatch should look like, after I commented on hers. I need more practice at drawing typewriters.

It's so perfectly nightmarish in that Victorian-esque way, with just the right amount of whimsy to fit with Carroll's work. Fantastical!

Didn't one of the crew go insane after a close encounter with this monster ?

Absolutely Brilliant. Kind of reminds me of an old game I play called American McGee's Alice in wonderland. It looks like concept art for if they put a Bandersnatch in it ^^ I love it.

Such a delightfully absurd design. The typewriter-for-a-stomach idea is gold!

I'm assuming I haven't read nearly as much Carroll as you have. Hopefully I'll be able to soon, because some of those quotes sound like they would have been from a different book.
Thanks for mentioning me and partially drawing it for me. It looks astounding. I always liked your style.

The quotes are from Through the Looking Glass (which I assume you've read) and The Hunting of the Snark, which is slightly more obscure. I thoroughly recommend it though.
You're welcome. I probably wouldn't have done it if you hadn't inspired me with your drawing. And thankyou! ^_^

Great concept, and good reasoning behind it. The tux actually makes it look more Wonderlandian.
