The funny thing is, I'm watching it right now.
Also It's not THAT tough, give me a lighter and a can of any arisol-spray and it will rue the day it crossed this Celtic Prince.

Movie has been showing on BBC America, but I have the DVD and an off-LD VHS tape. It's been proving Lovecraft was right about outer space for 30+ years now.

To be fair, Inspector, almost every human alive would be dead if caught with one in a dark alley. By their hands or by the Alien's.
And good god, that's a beaut of a pic of it.

fun fact: "Xenomorph" means (strange form) or "alien". The lifeform was unknown in the movie Aliens, which was implying that other alien species were known to exist *especially the director's cut* and the military term for alien life forms was "xenomorph"...and that insectoid aliens were by far the more common (bug hunt). Despite what the games may try to imply, the marines were clearly not familiar with this xenomorph.
but because the term has been so strongly adopted by the fan base, the comics and such now refer to other aliens as *xenoforms* and *extrasteller organisms* and such.

...and yet the movie isn't called Xenomorph. The term was dropped in Aliens by the space marines and I think it stuck as another way to refer to them.

Objectively speaking, you really think there would be a whole franchise if Predator was crappy, hmm? And Predators saved the franchise whereas Predator 2 did a lot of damage.

Just to point this out,
Predator 2 is responsible for the comics and games existing, especially the easter egg of the Xenomorph skull, and expanding on their tribal and technological identity. As good as the first movie was it wasn't enough to expand from, and many of the iconic weaponry came from the second film.
Predators is a (love it) or (hate it) film for many fans especially as it is yet another case of (lets reinvent the monster) about up there with Tremors 5, but not as bad as Leprechaun Origins...okay that's not fair, nothing is as bad as Leprechaun origins, but it is closer to Tremors 5 in introducing this totally different vaguely similar creature and trying to say, "hey we got the bigger badder radder beastie yo".
and lets be honest, the reason the Predator franchise doesn't have a ton of movies like so many other franchises is because they could tell that without cross-overs it was going to be (same movie, different location). Granted Predator in middle east isn't THAT bad of an idea, just its (Jungle, City, Desert, ect...) its like the stages of a video game.

Tell that to Topher Grace. He explicitly stated that Predators does for Predator what Aliens did for Alien.

and he'd be wrong given general audience reactions and reviews that I saw. and how other media has used movie elements.
Also, looking at comic books.
Which what Aliens did for Alien was expand on the franchise in such a way that caused it to become more than a thriller into the action genre to the extent that it became a jumping off point and material for expanded media.
While see different Xenomorph casts, space marines, the Queen, ect...in comic books and novels, up to the ones out NOW. The new Predators and their toys...no.
Now I am going to be an ass here but. Let's look at the comics out right now.
Latest Aliens comics: we see the elements from Alien Isolation (which is pretty neat to be brought into a comic) as the new elements, and the stuff we've seen before.
Latest Predator comics (and all since Prometheus and Predators). Not a trace of the new "Super Predators" or their new tech or dogs or pretty much anything introduced in that movie. We've seen the Prometheus elements more. In fact latest Predator comic (Life and Death issue 3, came out this month I believe.) We see classic Predators, some tech introduced in games, but nothing from (Predators).
and I will be honest, Predators had good action, more so than the other two Predator movies as they were trying to go more for the (horror) element.
But the movie, and this is just me, but Predators did nothing for me as it was (The Most Dangerous Game) trope, and many Predator fans didn't like how these new predators had a fancy hunting preserve and dogs and drones and traps rather than big game hunting in their prey's natural environment. I've seen so many things follow this trope, heck I've seen cartoons do this where an alien brings super-heroes and monsters to a hunting planet...it was an old tired trope before that movie came out.
But it is a matter of taste, it had some good points. But to say it did for the franchise was Aliens did for Alien...when there is no evidence of it having that level of impact...or any actually in extended material, is pretty full of it. Heck the next Predator movie announced sounds like its going back to basics with the Predator rather than following the new stuff they did in that movie.
and to be honest I'm not passionate enough about this to continue this; just felt I needed to point out that Predators is treated more non-cannon in other Predator media than anything else predator related.

If anything, continuity in the Alien/Predator franchise is... convoluted. It should be looked at like a multiverse, and there maybe the possibility that we might be getting that with Neill Blomkamp's Alien sequel, which is a direct sequel to Aliens, ignoring Alien 3 and Resurrection. Also, Sigourney Weaver did say that Alien 3 and Resurrection occurred in a parallel universe.
Also, Tristan Jones, artist for Aliens Defiance did confirm that the AVP films are still on Fox's canon list. He mentioned that over on a thread forum at AVPGalaxy.
The best way to look at Alien-Predator canon, is how the Godzilla franchise treats it canon.

well yes, the stuff I was talking about with the guy claiming Predators did for Predator was Aliens did for Alien was the elements of the film.
We see tons of stuff from Aliens, weapons, lingo, marines, the Queen, ect...show up in other continuities.
However we have yet to see (anything) from Predators show up in any other Predator continuity, no comics or games have used anything from it. While Predator 2 gave us a lot of new material to build from.

Well, Robert more or less had said that his movie was supposed to be the definitive sequel to the original. But not a lot of people know this, or choose to acknowledge it and more or less go by Nimrod Antal's word, who says he considered it as the third film. So you've got two statements which... really don't corroborate with one another. I think TVTropes needs to acknowledge this too.
βI originally conceived it back in the day and they had already done Predator 2, and Iβ¦ pretended that didnβt exist and I just went right to Predator 1 and wrote this as a follow up to Predator 1. Which is why this will be Predator and PREDATORS. Almost like ALIEN and ALIENS.β
Source: youtu.be/YZuQ8hV6yLA?t=6m55s
βThey wanted to bring back fans of the original, so we were very much βletβs pretend weβre doing a sequel to the first movie only and forget everything else existedβ.β
Source: youtu.be/16kklIQMEhw?t=3m8s
If we go by the Word of God trope, the movie isnβt even the third film, itβs Robertβs intended direct sequel to the original ignoring everything else after the first film, much like how Godzilla 1985 was to the original Godzilla, or how Highlander III is a direct sequel to the original Highlander.
As for PREDATORS elements showing up in the new rebooted Expanded Universe (comics, games, novels) well... they sort of make an indirect appearance in Fire and Stone. We a bunch of Predators dressed up like the Super Predators but they're really just.. normal Predators. Ariel Olivetti didn't do a good job of getting the imagery across. But when one Predator is exposed to the black slime, we see him sort of turning into a Super Predator for about... one panel before turning into something else.

The only thing Predators did that was similar to Aliens was add an S at the end of its title. That was their whole selling point and everyone seemed to buy into it, which is what he's spouting about up there.

You're never going prove that objectively. Heck, you seem to be unaware of who Shane Black is. He starred in the first film, but that was it. He's not the director, writer, producer or even creator. Plus, he doesn't have a whole lot of experience directing.
