Reading the other comments, this is canon?
I'm asking because I can see as much Super Sentai (specifically pink) and Harley Quinn as I can Gwen Stacy, Deadpool (and maybe SpiderGwen).

She started thanks due to a variant theme month. Every month Marvel picks a theme and their artists makes a couple of artworks to be placed as a option for a cover on a comic. In March it was Howard the Duck in classical paintings and in June to honor the success that Spider-Gwen has been a theme that was Gwen as other heroes and villains in the multiverse. comicbooksandcats.com/2015/06/…
The theme did well and the artist had a fun time. The one that sold the best and sold out the fastest was the Gwenpool cover for the Deadpool comic. After that cover came out some people made fanworks and cosplays of that cover plus one did some short fun Gwenpool videos.
Marvel decided to run with it and gave her a part in a short tale found in three Howard the Duck comics. The comics sold well. Then she had a part in a Christmas comic that considered of 4 short Christmas tales plus one connecting tale. Gwenpool was one of those tale and was received well by readers.
That writer and artist who did the Gwenpool Christmas side story the writer had some ideas for the character and a story and character development ideas and pass them to Marvel who like them and gave her a ongoing series.
Gwen Poole came from our world and was a regular lover of comicbooks and the heroes of the Marvel universe. Then somehow she found herself on Earth 616.
Being in the big Marvel Earth Gwenpool believed that nothing was real thus nothing she did has concurrences plus knowing comicbook tropes she hope to use that to her advantage. New to that Earth, no birth records, having no family or friends, and no money she believed that she becoming a hero mercenary she would be safe, secured, and have fun (as heroes might be in danger but never really die) and gain some money. She believed that if you didn't have a costume you were a extra (and nobody cares for extras).
Finding a costume store she meets with a designer who after telling her that her name was "Gwen Poole" the designer (I think her name is Mandy or Tandy) felt that pink would suit her and being that her last name was Poole she took some inspiration from Deadpool's costume.
Gwenpool doesn't know anything but how to use weapons plus has no fighting skills. But she does battle dirty and knows everything a comicbook reader would know (like Thor is Jane and other secrets). She tries to use tropes to her advantage, wit under fire, and pure luck to live.
She doesn't believe her actions have concurrences but quickly learns some heard truths and discovers how much it stinks to be a regular person in the Marvel Earth.
This is a comic that looks absurd. Open it up and it starts funny and ends with a moodwhiplash (she has already lost somebody close and her actions has cost her and hurt others she cares about plus she comprehending her mortally and how deadly and scary the villains and heroes are in the Marvel universe after Thor threatens her life). She learning that this fictional universe she is in isn't all fun and games and is very real and hard for extras to live in.
Her comic is both funny and serous at the same time. She is goofy but when alone to think serous, lonely, and scared. Full of moonwhiplashes and comic deconstructions.
Overall I wasn't expecting much from her but turn out to be a hidden gem of a series thus far blowing away my exceptions and assumptions.

At least with the Spider hero theme heroes, most of them seemed to have been a bit more thought into them. Even Spider-Woman is better than this, and her creation was just to have a trademark on the name Spider-Woman.
So, I guess, maaaaybe, Gwenpool could turn into something good. I just doubt it.

nope they clearly said she was from our earth and the only power she has is knowing everything about the marvel universe, and guns/ swords.
