Drew this at the openning night of the ConIt's Princess leia from the novel Splinter of the Mind's Eye. At one time the Sequel to STAR WARS: A NEW HOPE......at least as far as we knew

Also Zeonista - Agreed. In fact it still could have happened in between Eps IV and V. I've this notion that part of the idea was to have a "smaller budget" plan available for "you can make a sequal but didn't hit it out the park last time so we're giving you less money".

I've heard of that background too. The story is very much "expedition of discovery" in the old school SF vein, and ILM could have done it in 1980 and wowed us all back then. Even if all we get from it eventually is a Star Wars: Rebels tribute episode, it will have been enough.

I enjoyed the book greatly. Although I couldn't help rolling my eyes at Leia's snobbishness in some places. For example, she wanted to get the Empire kicked off Mimban, but she was averse to stealing from a settlement she would be quintessentially tolling the death knell on. Also, 'What would a representative of the Alliance be doing with common currency on a diplomatic mission'. Geez woman, get off your high tauntaun!

Still have the paperback on the shelf, it has held up rather well over the years. George Lucas changed his mind, but the story is still there, and Alan Dean Foster was the perfect man to tell it. And Leia had to wear a form-fitting jumpsuit for nearly the entire adventure so it was alright.

Mimban remained part of the expanded universe, so ti could always return as a setting one day....
And another legendary figure made a cameo too, Foster slipped it in towards the end... 
Did you get the Dark Horse graphic novel that came out c. 15 years ago? It was a pretty good adaptation as things went.

Dark Horse had a big role in making the Expanded Universe, and I preferred many of their stories to most of the novels. They also reprinted the old Marvel comics in collected form.

Yeah, uneven story and art, but when the Marvel stories were on target, they were awesome! Good times.... I hope a certain lady gunslinger and a certain red-haired female rebel make an appearance in your galleries some time.

I like to think of this as Leia Taking a role like Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell only in this case sneaking around Empire facilites
