Description I watched "The Living Legend" last night with my best friend. It is one of the best episodes of the Classic BATTLESTAR GALACTICA.

It occured to me that I should kitbash the ship I used as the setting for my old Battlestar Galactica RPG game...back in the 90s.

The ship is based on the old toy from the 70s [link]

The idea was that this smaller vessel could get a squadron of Vipers to a location without diverting a whole Battlestar. This ship would have a smaller compliment of fighters but supported larger capital ships that didn't keep multiples of fighters on board like the Colonial Battlestars.

Though there are similarities to this and that thing from Wing Commander as Makoshark04 pointed out, but using the classic BSG components worked much better for both the Wing Commander version, and to be honest even over the original BSG.

I'm sorry....I don't understand. You don't like the design...because I used classic BSG parts?

Ah, hell no. I prefer your design over the BSG design.

Inspector97 In reply to NewDivide1701 [2012-10-23 22:10:00 +0000 UTC]

Oh...ok. Obviously the toy is a poor scale for an actual ship. I like Wing Commander and though the command ship has a relevant similarity....I like my design for the more realistic details that BSG had over the WC video game. If that makes sense.

Very awesome, I still have the toy you usedd for the inspiration. Actually that would have been a great addition to the original BSG. Question what system did you use or did you create one for your BSG rpg? I ask because about ten years ago I created my version of a classic BSG rpg, using the D12 as the die of chance, for the 12 worlds.

It's cool you have the toy...I had all the other ones I could get my mits on....the Viper, The raider, The Space Probe the land ram. Even fired the little missiles...YAY dangerous toys! Anyone for Lawn Darts?!

ShadowAgent13 In reply to Inspector97 [2012-08-09 12:00:54 +0000 UTC]

The only one I can not find is the land ram, I have the rest, including a Viper that has a different engine and wing set up. Still have a few of the figures still MIB, though I have a few loose. I also have all the novels that Glen Larson wrote, have you ever read any of those?

I have only 5...yes I have. They are very good. I've got all of Richard Hatch's Galactica novels to.

I used one of my own Creation...it was made as a universal Sci-fi game...we could build any ship, any weapon, any species. We used it to play SPACE:1999, Aliens, Star Trek and Star Blazers.

The episodes that dealt with Cain and the Pegasus were pretty fun... and it did eventually give us Apollo's new love interest, Sheba.

But I sort of disagree with what we-r-nomad said about Adama. Adama was more of a pragmatic leader; he saw the realistic side of things, and knew when to be wary of something that appeared to be too easy or too good to be true.

Commander Cain certainly could stir the Spirit of his troops, but he was fighting a "Straw War" against the Cylons. Sure, he had the panache and skills to make victories, and keep his men and woman in the fight, but he was just one Battlestar (with limited number of troops and fighters) against the Cylons. Even if he had convinced Adama to join up the Galactica and his support ships of the Fleet, they still wouldn't have lasted long in the hot-zone.

Adama had the right of it. The Exodus Fleet had to keep moving towards the goal of finding Earth and avoiding the Cylons. Any extended engagement would have eventually doomed the survivors of Kobol.

I agree with you. As much as Cain is right that the two Battlestars would reek havoc, the fleet would suffer for it....Adama had no choice....and though Cain was a brilliant military man...he is not used to or ready to play defence or mother hen to a fleet of defenceless ships.

Inspector97 In reply to makoshark04 [2012-08-07 02:42:00 +0000 UTC]

It looks similar but it's not based on it...It's based on the Galactica toy from the 70s...and that pre dates the Tiger's Claw.

There was a plan back then for a spinoff show featuring the Pegasus and Commander Cain. But it would've cost ABC too much money back then.

They cancelled Galactica over the cost and made Buck Rogers.....I'd rather have kept BSG

NBC had Buck Rogers. ABC had Battlestar Galactica. Buck Rogers was terrible, but it had the bigger budget.

Cool.

I loved that episode. Cain was such a refreshing change of pace, as far as CBGC characters went. Where Adama always teetered on the edge of dispair, Cain gave his soldiers hope and esprit de corps.

Plus, the episodes were more about the tactics of Battlestar deployment and Viper combat. It was real nice to have some focus on the big toys.

Thanks for the flashback, and nice kitbash.

Yea, you notice it less when you're a kid, but their utter dependence upon library footage gets annoying after a while.

All the action is clips of the dogfight from Saga of a Starworld rearranged in a slightly different order.

I would like to see them, one day, do a remastered version. You know, a competent, faithful remastering like Paramount did with Star Trek, not a gratuitous parade of showy effects that changed to tenor of many of the best scenes from the Star Wars trilogy.

Very true. I love the effectas they have...but there is a lot of recycling...and nowadays you could add to the existing footage with more appropriate FX. Plus a 5.1 letter box version of it would be nice.....as the current DVD releases are just ridiculous
