Description Playing around trying to learn space art.
Photoshop CS2

This is really just an excuse to get rid of that gawd-awful pink fractal thing that was showing as my 'Recent Deviation' image.

You're far too kind. Thank you.

You could do a great starfield in no time.

I love this... It allows the imagination to wonder what mysteries lie out there in the cold, beautiful wastes of Space!

I like it!
I especially like the "plaides" like cluster on the left !!

Happy Easter!!!!!

I spent the day in the garage working on the HD.
I'm redoing the turbo setup, pictures will be posted soon.

Thanks! I like the cluster, too.

I'll assume that by HD you're referring to the Harley and not your hard drive. What was wrong with the turbo? Thought you told me it kicked ass.

Thank you very much.
I highly recommend Alyn's planet tutorial. [link]
For starfields, I think Greg Martin has the best tutorial. [link]

I hope they help you. Good luck!

Oh. I meant to mention that when I do a starfield it's generally the way Greg Martin approaches it. One of the other things that I do is fairly subtle but effective in adding depth & variation. It will also cut down on the amt of time spent tweaking individual stars with a brush.

Create a cloud layer above the star layers.

Go into channels and Ctrl+Click either the R, G or B channel, depending on how much of the cloud you want to retain. Try each channel before deciding.

Return to the regular cloud layer, invert the selection and hit delete.

Now if you'd like, add a layer mask to the cloud layer and run the cloud filter on the mask.

Play with opacity / blending modes, etc.

I'm glad you liked the tutorials. Basic planets actually come together more quickly than starfields.

Took a quick hop to your website. A Paiste guy, eh? One of my most prized posessions is my Zildjian baseball cap.

Actually, I didn't see much of the site. Please don't be offended. I haven't slept for a while. It's hard to concentrate. When I got to your site the Drums link popped right out at me because one of my brothers drums. Interestingly, I grew up a few blocks away from the original Zildjian factory in the United States and I never knew what they were making.

I used to pass the original factory every day for years, walking to and from school. Sadly, the factory's not there anymore. Zildjian eventually built a new factory in another city nearby. This all happened 15+ years before you were born.

I'm now back at your website. I like your photos and art.

Take a look at this.

List of most space tutorials on dA.

To the artist - pretty good job, the blurring looks rather ew on the planets. Go for sharper. And the blue thingy on the side doesn't look too good.

Interference In reply to ssgtGrimreaper [2006-04-18 04:07:59 +0000 UTC]

I agree that the blur doesn't work. I'm learning. The next one won't have the same mistakes.

As for the 'blue thingy', it's a nebula. I think it's the only halfway decent part of the image.
