Thanks, This was a class demo piece so the neck is still attached to the armature and I found that a steel pipe was a bit distracting in the image.

I love this. I love this a lot.
By the way, I hope you don't mind a stupid generic question. When you use armature, can you bake with that in? I was told once you couldn't...but then it lect me to wonder how'd you bake something more complex that can only stand up using armature or something.

Thanks for the comment and the question is not stupid in fact the answer is quite complex and I usally have to show students in my class several ways to use an armature. the problem with clay is that it shrinks as it dries and will crack around something solid that does'nt shrink. For a Life size head like this I use a metal armature with layers of cloth around it so the clay has room to shrink a little and then remove the armature when the clay is still soft but I have roughed out enough of the face to have the over all shape and proportions. Removal of the armature is by cutting the head in half, hollowing it out even more then putting it back together. Some clay artist will use an aluminum armature and leave it in the piece and let it melt out during the firing process, but that is usually with a low fire body of clay and I use a high fire clay and it needs a more even thickness so I dont do this. Armatures also depend on the piece being made and these are only two exampes of amatures but I hope this answers the question for the momement.

First off, I think it's brilliant, and congratulations, etc. All the things you'd expect to hear in a DD comment.
But, question... Did you use paint on greenware or is that glaze? What sort of paint/glaze? I/A, Do you have any special techniques for controlling the lines of the glaze? It's been a while since I've done sculpture, so my dabbling is still rather messy.
Again, great job.
That is one sleepy rocker.

Thanks for the comment, and to answer your question this is the color of the clay, a strange reddish brown. still leather hard.

This is strikingly realistic sculpture. My! Those eyelids just couldn't be any better. And I figure it wasn't going to be any kind of polished handsomeness on this man's face but I find it really attracting anyway. Such delicate work, all the little details and excellent propotions..! One can just hope to be someday as good as you are. A lot love for you!
