FINALLY managed to get this finished! It's been a WIP since before graduation, and since there have been so many distractions (Also have been in Lebanon for a month with no way to draw, my muse has suffered) I couldn't get it done. But anyways, here, have some HTTYD fanart~ Been studying lighting and shadows, and watching videos byI REALLY want to take a class online with him, but the sessions are constantly full!
So the best thing I have are online youtube videos. You do get more knowledge from them, which is good I guess~Anyways, enough of my ramblings. Enjoy all~
EDIT: Added yellow lighting to the clouds and fixed up background lighting.

Alright this is my first time writing a critique so have mercy.
I believe that this is a absolutely marvelous and stunning piece of artwork! I'm loving the lighting, shadows and the details.
I like the lighting already but to make It even better I suggest making it a bit lighter. The lighting on the characters is fine, it's the background lighting in the center that should be lighter, along with the lighting on the clouds closer to the sunlight. I would also suggest adding more pink and maybe some light purple in the sky and mixing it with the blues. (That is if you were going for a sunset like look)

Thanks for the crit, sis <3 I've fixed up the lighting on the clouds and changed the main file, so hopefully it looks better now~ Can't believe I didn't even notice that until you mentioned it! Also lightened the color on the sun and added a bit more purple to make it look more natural. I noticed when I was on the plane back from Lebanon, we were following the sun, so we never saw it fully set for two days, even though two days have passed. The time was sunset, but the sun was still high in the sky and there were no orange or red colors.
So I figured since dragons fly higher than the clouds, they're closer to the sun and in the atmosphere, so they don't see sunset's colors in the sky, only on the ground. (If that makes any sense).

Seriously though I gotta break this down
Let's start with the background, this heavenly background with the yellow purple color scheme which happens to be the color scheme I fucking live for this is a 10/10 pure gold too good for this life. The clouds look a bit too uniform but that isn't quite as important since it's already brought from the focus and not all that vital
What is vital... What is really GODDAMN viral is the perfection that is your foreground. Both dragon's anatomy is spot on and detailed all the way through, and Hiccup and Astrid are perfection in this. Their posture is perfect for the occasion of somehow pulling this off lmao, and the way light reflects off them is truly breathtaking. All in all the picture is beautifully crisp and eye catching.

Thank you sis ;-; And yeah, I see what you mean about the clouds... I had them in a VERY different style the first time I worked on the background, but it blocked out the blending tones of lighting in the sky. I eventually settled for this, but I can see it's a bit distracting from the focal point... Will see what else I (*cough* photoshop brushes*cough* ) can do!

The dragons are accurately drawn, the shadows are amazing! High lights are nicely done and on the whole it looks amazing *0*
You should work on improving the clouds tho. Other than that this is fantastic. 👍👍
