Description
I sharpened my swords silently, only having the sound of metal on metal note I was there. Ray, my SIR unit, however practiced his combat training with a few dummies in the other corner of my lab. We would be heading off to an enemy planet soon, tomorrow really, and I wished for ourselves to be prepared for whatever lied ahead in our upcoming mission. We would be accompanied by another as well, but the Tallest refused to tell us who he or she was or even what its species was. But it was like them to not care, like they didn't care about me when they blasted my smeetself into space still developing in my tube.Luckily some Planet Jackers were flying past when they noticed my lone, floating tube. They brought me in and just like that we were a family. But it was dangerous for any species to be housing one not from the own race, so they called an Irken friend to take me back to Irk. Now clearly I didn't want to leave my adopted family behind but they promised me they'd visit me whenever they could. I smiled at the memory pressing a button on my large wrist that projected a picture of my Planet Jacking dads.
Now to most people you would think I'd burst out into tears, but you're wrong. I know my place; and my duty and it is to be strong, brave and most of all never tear up, I was now a Pro-ranking Irken Elite soldier and Invader, it was not wise to show any sort of emotion that could reveal a weakness even to me. It was just not the Irken way!
A knocking came to my large, bluish-silver metal door that was the same sort of colour for my entire base. I turned my high chair around, raising my curled antennas and stared patiently at the door. "Who is it?" I asked fearless. Ray was already in defense mode with guns coming out of his head. My hazel greenish blue eyes were locked on the entrance when two familiar voices broke my lips into a wide, antenna to antenna grin.
"Baby girl, it's us!" said a thin, high-pitched voice I knew extremely well.
"Come on, Honey-sickle," said the other in a much lower voice but they were both males.
"Hold on," I called to the other side as I walked toward the door, signaling Ray it was okay. But his eyes still glowed red as they usually did. I unlocked the door and the two faces, one skinny and one plump greeted me. "Papa Bing!" I hugged the short, slim Planet Jacker then embrace the tall, hefty one, "Papa Leebu, what are you doing here?!" I couldn't keep my excitement from bursting out of me. Their smell of oil and gasoline was overwhelming and comforting feeling my mind of sweet memories.
"Ta sees our Baby, o' course!" my lips smiled broadly at Papa Bing's words. "It's been some time since we saw ya!" He patted my head with a two fingered hand.
Papa Leebu grunted. "She's not a smeet no more; she's an Elite, a woman now!"
I couldn't help but blush, Papa Leebu always made me feel so noble and strong while Papa Bing took care of my comforting. "I'm very aware of that, but we haven't sees her since a month or two ago, I'm just trying ta make her feel happys." Papa Bing explained while Papa Leebu just rolled his greenish yellow eyes.
"Well come in, come in," I said with excitement filling my every bone. Their scent of oil and grease gave great, vivid memories about our time together, when it was fixing the ship manually and getting spattered with grimy, black stuff and then laughing about it or just falling asleep on Papa Leebu's shoulder about to burn another planet, it was nice to see my adopted fathers again, especially since I would be leaving tomorrow. Three chairs rose from the table in a quick second with the touch of a button that was located on my wrist cuff. The two sat down while I settled myself down as well.
Papa Bing spoke now. "So we hear you're off to, yet another, enemy planet, correct?" he said raising a green eye at me.
I nodded slowly, "Yep, yet another." I giggled a little but I really had to force it since I really wasn't in the mood to leave Irk, not yet anyway.
"Bah, what have those leaders of yours ever done for you, sent you away that's what they did and now they are doing it again." Huffed Papa Leebu. "Now, Maggie, if there is anyting, anyting we can do for you, you just say it and we'll make it happen." He finished, both of my fathers smiled at me.
Not wanting to answer the question knowing I'd break down into tears, I spotted the gift basket that sat beside Papa Bing and went with it. "That for me?" I asked changing the subject.
"Oh right!" perked up Papa Bing handing me the green and blue basket as Ray stood beside me with red eyes starring questionably at the basket that now sat on my lap. "Go on, Baby girl, open it!" the two grinned with pleasure as I unwrapped the pretty blue bow and pulled out a rusty wrench. My eyes filled with tears as I thumbed it and Papa Leebu began to speak.
"It was your first tool you used when you were little." I continued to stroke its grey and red outside not looking up.
"I can't believe you remembered." I said nearly bursting into tears at the sight, but I was successful and held my sobs inside. Not here, I told myself, not now.
"Go on, Honey-sickle open the rest," ushered Papa Bing. Papa Leebu snarled at him.
"It's her present, she my open it to her own pace."
"It's okay, if it was at my pace we'd be here for hours." I said with a quick smirk rummaging through the blue and green tissue paper and drawing out a large locket with a battered, golden outside with patches of silver metal screwed on. And on it were the words Our Family craved into the golden steel in the Planet Jacker language. I opened it and before me was a picture of Papa Bing, Papa Leebu and I all cuddled up and beside it was an empty frame with Place Photo Here printed in the same language as the front phrase.
"Sorry if it's a little battered, it was all we could come up with other than a few knick-knacks we got at our home planet." Meaning their home planet I said in my mind, I wasn't a Planet Jacker, I was Irken and Irk was my home planet at least that's not what I knew twenty years ago. Papa Leebu nudged Bing with an elbow.
"Well, my little Wrench," Papa Leebu said standing. "We really must be going; planets don't jack themselves ya know!" he playfully added.
"Oh, okay," I said giving each a hefty hug. "I'll miss you."
"We'll miss ya too, Buttercup." Said Papa Bing following Leebu out the door.
And just like that I was again alone with Ray. Ray looked up at me and asked, "You'll miss them, won't you?"
I nodded. "Yes, very much so." I continued thumbing the locket and safely placed it in my wrist cuff. And then, only then did a single tear manage to squeeze out my eye and fall on the steel blue tiled floor.
