It's one of my favorites too! And I absolutely agree with you - the plot (to me at least) was breathtaking to put it lightly.

When Maddie shoots Julie I cried so hard, not only because of the sadness, but because of the friendship. And I also love how the reader is as blind the Nazis about the truth

I agree with every sentiment you've said. Especially about Maddie shooting Julie. I cried really badly as well v-v

There really is no description of the book. Really there isn't. I've tried to get my best friend to read it. No one else I knew had read it so I couldn't spoil it for anyone there's so many entertwining plot lines.... I love spy books and that book was amazing.

Well, I'm really not a person who likes spy books very much - nothing against them, just not my genre - but my librarian hand picked it for me and I will admit that I wouldn't have read it if it didn't come directly from her. Geeze am I glad that I read it though because it is so GOOD. I try to recommend it to a few of my friends and they just sort of look at me like "Seriously?". It's hard to know how good it is when they won't even give it a chance >->

I got to the point where I like it so much I wrote the author (Elizabeth Wein) a quick note on her website. Also the sad thing is, oddly it's not popular. I'm not sure why. I'd never even heard of it until I saw the book on the shelf in my school library and the name intrigued me.
I want to buy it so I can read it over and over!

I don't get why it's not popular! I mean, it appeals to a lot of different genres, the plot is good, and it's also got tons of twists and turns in it! It really deserves more readers than it has.

I AGREE!!!!!! It makes no sense to me. Β I told my English teacher about it so she could read it. Β It's just so good. Β I still don't have a good explanation for it. Β I want to tell people about it but I can't just say "the main Β dies but she dies a hero and in a wonderful friendship"

I also quite like how the book utilizes a relationship other than a romantic one. I loved that the characters had such a good friendship - and that's exactly what the book was about. I mean sure, there were romantic interests peppered in the background, but they were never the focus of the book for even a second.

Yes, I know! I mean, lesbians are fine - I don't care what you're into, just be happy about it - but that's not what it was about.
