Description
Another boom shook the world around her and Gaz staggered, loosing her footing and falling shoulder heavy against the cold metal wall of the underground lab. She couldn't believe what she was seeing, but yet, she felt so foolish for not thinking it would happen. Zim had threatened it for years, over and over, screaming at the top of his lungs and occasionally flashing a hint of psychopathic danger. But for all those years she'd brushed him off, he seemed stupid, foolish and incompetent. Besides, her brother had always been there to stop him.
So why wasn't he there now?
She pulled herself back onto her feet and struggled on, despite more shocks and booms echoing through the lab from above. Goddammit Dib.
Finally, the young woman reached what she had long labelled the 'main chamber' of the lab. A huge circler room, covered in TV screens showing all simultaneous news channels. Her father had used it to keep constantly up to date on all world events when this lab was his.
Than the accident happened… now it was Dib's, all of it. He had made it his own, with his own experiments and ideas littered around, hardly any of which were his father's projects. Membrane had wanted to push towards nanotechnology and bioengineering. Dib had changed it all towards extra-dimensional and metaphysical research and direct energy manipulation.
Of course, Gaz wasn't thinking of that as staggered into the main room. There, cutting a black silhouette against the scenes of horrible, terrifying destruction on the scenes.
"DIB! DIB!" Gaz cried out from behind him, "DIB, Zim is destroying everything! He's got these machines, and these ships and-"
"I know," The man stated simply, his voice barely heard in the silent room.
Gaz blinked. What? What did he mean 'I know', what the fuck was he on about? Why wasn't he out there trying to stop him? "… WELL!?"
"Well what?" Dib said simply, not looking to her. Not even moving.
"Well go out and kick his ASS!" She screamed, pointing to the door as she did, "He's KILLING PEOPLE."
"Some people need to die," Dib replied slowly, carefully choosing his words, "They will be remembered."
Gaz was dumbstruck. What the fuck was he saying? This wasn't Dib. Dib went out and saved lives and rescued people and stopped Zim from being like this. "… You're… letting them die?"
"Like I said, they'll be remembered." Dib replied slowly again, his head slowly turning to look at the screens, "When my ascension is complete, I will carve their names into palace walls."
… Dib had lost it. He'd gone absolutely fucking crazy. "Dib, there won't be a fucking world left to save if you don't HURRY THE FUCK UP and save our asses!" She gestured towards the screens, "I mean fuck! Look at what's happening! He's destroyed Capitol Hill! Europe has surrendered! Russia has launched its nukes and its stopped NOTHING."
"And?" Dib said with a slow, almost uncaring chuckle, "There will be no countries soon, no nations to fight each other. There will only be me and my holy empire."
The room shook before Dib continued, Gaz was too shocked to even try and ask any more questions. "You see, Gaz, dear sister, I've come to a realisation. I spent so much time fighting for humanity, believing that we as a people could overcome, we could join together and fight the evil from space."
He paused, as if he was remembering his past foolishness before continuing, "But I slowly saw that people don't like doing things that don't extend past their own noses. The world is selfish and stupid. People are violent and will believe anything you tell them for an easy life."
He laughed loudly, it was frightening. "So I came up with a plan, Gaz. I will take up that mantle which many have tried and failed to claim. Humanity will be brought to the edge of extinction, I estimate it'll take roughly ten months, than… I will arise out of the ashes like the golden son."
Dib slowly raised his arms into the air, "The Messiah! I will destroy all of Zim's creation at once and harness all humanity to my heel! I will be the new world leader and bringer of light! I will take humanity to the stars, and rule as God-Emperor of Mankind!"
Gaz was silent at this, before slowly stating, "… so humanity has to burn first, to become so desperate that they'll accept any sign of help, even from a megalomaniac like you?"
"I'm not a megalomaniac, Gaz," Dib stated simply, "I'm the smartest man on earth. Membrane Corp controls seventy five percent of the world's research, I have access to top secret government facilities in almost every country on the globe, as well as direct Al-Qaeda. I've been controlling the stock market for the last ten years. I elected Obama and destroyed my rivals in the last Financial Depression. They have no idea that I control everything, I already rule this world, Gaz, I just have yet to take my place as its saviour."
"And how to you plan to rid the earth of Zim when he's killing everything?" Gaz asked quickly, trying to hide her thoughts behind her worry. If he could blab about how he'd do it, she could stop him now and end this madness.
However, Dib laughed. "You really think I'd tell you how I plan to end this? It's all been set up, everything, planned to the last detail. Even Zim is my unwitting pawn now."
"I… I can't just stand by and let you do this," Gaz's fists clenched, "You're not the Messiah… you're fucking Satan."
"The difference matters not," Dib replied, still with his back turned to her, "How does it go? 'History is written by the victor'? And I am already victorious."
She darted at him, hoping to gain the first strike, maybe knock him down or something. But he dodged her easily, grabbing her arm and snapping it. Where did he get such strength from? The pain roared through her, blinding her almost.
But she looked up from the floor as he stepped over her, pulling a strange looking gun from his jacket. As if reading her mind, he stated, "It's my new invention, a flay-gun. It'll take apart your body at a sub-atomic level. You'll die painlessly."
"… one day you'll die," Gaz spat out through tears, "And the humanity will see the truth."
"Don't be silly, Gaz," Dib smiled. She could only see the glare on his glasses, but she knew he was smiling, she could hear his grin within his voice, "I don't plan to die. I'm the Messiah, remember? I'll live forever."
