Layer 1
I usually put down a orange or light brown undertone before adding the red.

Layer 2
Overlap the red over the orange or brown. If needed, you can gradually add more red to make it darker

Layer 3
Add a touch of dark brown or black into the wound. Use sparingly for the darkest parts of the wound/blood.

Tips
* Blood usually follows the contours/ curves of the body when pulled down by gravity!
* Blood is usually darkest in the middle and gets lighter the further away you get from the wound.
* Blood turns a brown color when drying or dried.
