The following years had been tough on Diamond. As he grew older, he came to notice the hushed tones around him, or the sneering voices in the back of the room, and all the things he never even considered started showing up. He realized that he was an outcast despite his many friends. He cut down on his meals drastically when he saw his abnormal growth, stopped sports, and most of all, gave up on his passion for the foal's choir.

His relationship with his father grew awkward, and was filled mostly with silence, but he still showed respect.
Despite his hard work, Diamond found that no matter how hard he worked, there would always be whispers following around him. He soon grew to ignore them, but it still hurt.

Everything changed when Pixie came into the picture. When Diamond first wrapped his arms around the small kirin, he knew that she would go through the same fate, and something snapped.

He swore that he would protect her with his life, and would tear down anything that got in her way. He knew that being good and working hard would never be enough to protect her, and at that moment he no longer was the sweet little coal that everyone knew and loved.

Spike's affection towards Pixie fueled Diamond's rage, angry that Pixie was loved while he was considered as a 'regret' But he loves her too much to be jealous, and this rage has been turned into the very passion Diamond uses to break down his foes.
