[...]  The Falcon flew in a great arc before hovering closely above to the splitting ground. Ben had already recognised the Millennium Falcon by her iconic sound. He sighed. Of course, he thought. Of course it had to be her.

“I have a bad feeling about this.” Ben mumbled. He didn’t know who the pilot was, but one thing was sure. Wookies were the most loyal creatures Ben has ever met. If the Falcon was around Chewie wouldn’t be far-off. It was best not to imagine the reaction Chewie would have at his sight. Rey didn’t comment for she was concentrated on bringing him safely to the Resistance without causing too much trouble.

“What’s going on, Lando?” Wedge Antilles entered the cockpit. He had been in the crew quarters and noticed the change of course.
“The kids started a rescue mission.” Lando explained.
“They didn’t seem very happy about it.”

“Well,” Lando exhaled, “we might have an unexpected guest.” He couldn’t keep his eyes off Ben and Rey since the moment they have spotted them. They were out of view now, probably boarding the ship – or at least trying to while bargaining with Finn. Lando had talked to Maz about Ben when Leia had died. He had been unable to believe her that Ben would eventually come back, that the sides would turn. But in the matter of fact, Maz was right. Kylo Ren wasn’t surrendering. Ben was coming home. Lando had never thought much of the Force, but, somehow, Leia has done it. She has shown Ben where he belonged to, in a way Lando couldn’t explain, not even to himself.

Chewie on the other hand hasn’t shown any reaction, yet, pretending to be busy holding the Falcon as stable as possible for boarding. The mind of a wookie could be unpredictable and hard to read, but Lando knew this one too well. “You know who that is, buddy?” he approached him. Chewie muttered. He was both angry and sad. When Ben had killed Han on Starkiller Base Chewie had immediately aimed for Ben’s heart in his rage, wanting to take revenge. He had been enraged and anguished. But before pulling the trigger he had realised he couldn’t do it. Blasting him into his left side instead had already caused Chewie so much pain and he had felt both guilty and relieved for letting him live. When Ben – calling him Kylo Ren never came into question – offered him his lightsaber to avenge Han, while imprisoned on the Star Destroyer, Chewie did not dare to. If he had done it he would have never forgiven himself for killing the toddler he used to cuddle with. He had heard Han and Leia talking about the conflict inside of Ben and never understood why he turned away from his family. But now, seeing him so peaceful with Rey, he just hoped that this conflict was finally settling. Chewie had known Rey long enough now that he knew he could trust in what she was doing. After a while he finally looked to Lando and roared something in wookie. Lando’s only answer to that was, “I hope so, too.” [...]
